NH's CLUB MOTORSPORTS

The Associated Press, in Manchester, NH Sunday News, reports the development of a 3.3 mile trackand club in Tamworth, NH. If the idea passes all local and state hurdles, the club could be open Fall, 2004.

300 acres, pool, tennis, spa, etc. are to be offered. Memberships will cost $2500., $10,000., or $15,000.plus monthly dues.

22 turns on the course. On-site instruction. No contact information was given in the article.

I wonder if they would create a membership level for clubs specific to different marques, ie MINI, Porsche, BMW.

Tamworth is in North Central NH.

It sounds quite interesting, IF they can get the approvals AND sell enough memberships. Here's the link to their website: clubmotorsports.memfirst.net

I met the Club Motorsports guys at NHIS this past weekend (at the BMW CCA driver's school). They were there with their BMW race car, and a whole stack of membership applications and site maps, etc. Looks like a nice facility, and, not being a golfer, it's the only kind of country club I would consider joining.

They've got three levels of membership, based mostly (from my quick read of the literature) on the amount of track time you get.

I like the concept of a clubhouse for significant others to hang out in (construction to be started next year), and the "Garage Mahals" - garages with sleeping areas upstairs.

I wish them luck! With all the NIMBYs around - it's hard to get such an operation approved.

[a group in central/eastern PA has been trying to get a similar complex approved for years. ]

Fortunately New Hampshire still values freedom and free enterprise. Their new gov., Craig Benson, has a business backround and is trying to reduce the bureauocracy. However, it is more of a local community issue so it will probably be decided by a town hall meeting vote.

Well, Duke, although Gov. Benson is a friend of ours (MINIs On Top-Mt. Washington '03) and although you are correct, he was a very successful business leader (Cabletron), he is finding himself in a different arena working with the world's largest elected legislature. The issue WILL probably be decided by the planning board of Tamworth with all sorts of input from anyone with an opinion. Tourism in our North Country is important as the paper industry dwindles so my guess is that, with proper funding and safeguards, this project could happen. Sadly, it is out of the price range of most. However, I would guess further that there will be some way to get on that track on a per day basis or something like that.

Gov. Benson drives a minivan to work but does have a Hummer. Now I'd like to see a Hummer do S's at some speed!!!

Let's hope it doesn't encounter the opposition that the one planned for Alstead did.
