Long Island Nov 30th - 1st Flight via 1st Hwy to 1st Light ok.. how's that for a thread title???? it means... 1st Nonstop Flight across the Atlantic (Roosevelt Field) following the 1st Highway in the US (Long Island Motor Parkway (aka Vanderbilt Motor Parkway)) to The End (Montauk Point) a light 1st authorized by G. Washington (drum roll) (ps.. it might have been the 1st light authorized here in the US) Sunday after Thanksgiving.. we will try again and take a drive out to the Point. Starting place will again be top level of Roosevelt Field's South Parking garage (that way anyone who wants to can hit the john.. no more behind the school like we did in litchfield) along with coffee and such. not yet sure of time..probably meeting around 8:30-9:00 with departure at 9:30-10:00 be aware that while it's not the most winding of roads.. though we did find a nice route last time.. it is definatly a good long haul out.. approx 2-3 hours out to the point. not sure how long it took last time.. plus Sue and I stopped for some drinks. There are places along the way to stop and pick up drinks. Also.. there is a fee at Montauk Point State Park.. but to those who have never been out there... it IS worth the view and ride. ![]() anyway let me know if this will be ok.... Rob and yes this is the same message I posted on NAM(MCO) Since my response on here has been so poor.. i am willing to try again!!! c'mon!!!

I am up for it, the only problem will be mall traffic on that sunday. I would prefer to leave earlier to beat that traffic. Doug 2002 Cooper S eb/w, "Mini Cooper Look" 17% pulley. "When in Doubt Choose the burrito"...Tom Kosh

good point.. though we will be on the top of the garage.. and usually the mall opens at 11 on a sunday.. also.. you will be able to pick us up enroute.. it's not a twisty ralley... more like a caravan along the island..

just tested a slight change in route from what I did in Sept. the map program said it should take 2:38 to get to the LI exit for rt 24 (edwards rd).. but it took us about 1:15.. not bad eh??? just trying to figure out a possible stop or just go straight there... i now have walkabouts so we can use Channel 7 along the way.. slight route changes from Sept... going thru a little of the West Hills in Huntington instead of passing Sweet Hollow church.. and taking old Montauk Hwy (down by gurney's ) vs the Montauk State Parkway (bypass) though the bypass would be a little faster.. and it goes up over the hill.. the old route.. well undulates. oh also on someones idea here.. (ferget who) coming down rt 24.. all the way to 27a vs 27.. meaning we pass thru Southhampton and pass the Shinnecock reservation vs the hwy to where the diner is..(past southhampton) so while it will be a little slower... (and yes there are lights and such) we will pass thru all the hamptons on the south fork.. so a caravan thru there should turn some heads.. (i hope) I've called Hassel to let them know of this.. anyone want to call Habberstad and Southhampton?? Rob

here is a text file of the route (hopefully it will display well): both in a quote and in a php mode.. (sorry.. dont know how to change the color in PHP) PHP Code:

| Broken passenger seat... Rob, All I did was to adjust the seat back forward. It was when I tried to re-adjust the seat to its normal position that it broke. Basically, I've lost all ability to have the seat stay put in any position except two! Needless to say, I need to get this to the dealer pronto if I expect to make the LI ride. From what I've read, MINI has a variety of problems with the seats. Had I not ordered the car with leather, I would have probably just yanked the seats for Sparcos from JCW. Remind me to tell you about my own little ride against an ol' guy in a new 360 Modena. I came up on him as he was doing about 80, pulled up side by side until we were looking at each other, gave him a "thumbs up", and quickly pulled away. After about 5 seconds, the race was on! He caught me, of course, but only after we both were traveling at speeds well into the triple digits. This time, he came up alongside me, and gave ME the thumbs up with a smile of approval. I won't mention the name of the LI highway, but it begins with the letter M. Not to worry.....we were the only two cars on the road at the time (of course!)
