| Welcome to RDR II You've thought about it. You've mentioned it. You've wanted it. You've asked for it. Now... You've got it!!!! The official RDR II handout is now available for download from the download section at www.newyorkmini.org New contest see http://www.mini2.com/forum/new-york-new-england-region/52955-rdr-ii-contest-final-pool-50-players-winner.html We are having nametags made up which will have your screennameon them, if you wish to have your real name preprinted on them as well then please let us know your real name and names of any guests with you that would like a nametag as well. The official RDR II flyer can now be downloaded at www.gmini03.com Teaser pics can be found in posts #176, 177, 178, 179, 229, 314, 319, 674, 681, 682, 683, 684 and also on my website www.gmini03.com Who is putting this meet together? So far we have most of the original RDR team back again. Peter (uptick), Trevor (dkstone) John (GMINI) and Myself have all signed on. Ant (Antsmini) and Ed (Maxamini) have agreed to help pre-run the route as well and Ruthie is running the subtitle contest . The first RDR was Peter's idea and this one has been hatched mostly from my warped mind, with a lot of assistance from all these folks. In case I forget to thank them later ... Thanks to each and everyone of you for helping to make this possible, without all your help I'd have never even attempted to do this. What does RDR II mean? RDR stands for Reservoir Dogs Run. II is because this is the second run using the RDR name. For a little insight into the history of RDR and where the name came from check out these links to the original RDR rally HERE and HERE When is it? The date has been set. It is March 28th, 2004. Why this date you ask? Well, I picked the date because it's a Sunday and those seem to work the best for the majority of people and secondly it's my birthday!! What better way to spend my birthday then doing what I love most? Rallying with my friends!!! What time does it begin? The meet will officially begin at 9am. I hope to be on the road no later then 9.30am. The half hour in between will be used to gather and sign the waiver's, chat up your friends, meet new ones, and have the driver's meeting. I myself will plan to arrive around 8am and anyone arriving early or wanting extra time to chat and look at each other's MINI's are more then welcome to join me at that time. However I ask that everyone try to make it no later then 9am as we will be trying to get going on time. What about coffee and breakfast? For those of you who can not possibly start motoring the route without your morning coffee, right next door to the start point is a the Marcus Dairy. Feel free to have a walk over and grab a cup of 'joe' to go . If you are early enough Marcus Dairy is also a full service diner serving breakfast ![]() Where will the start point be? The start point will be in Danbury, Ct. We'll be meeting at the bank parking lot next to Marcus Dairy. It is off I-84 exit 3. For anyone who was around for the '12 Most Dangerous Curves Meet' it is the same starting point. More precise directions to follow. Red Star marks the Starting point. Will it be the same route? The start point has changed but the lunch break has not. We'll be traveling through two states and four counties. Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties in New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut. Some of the roads will be familiar to those who enjoyed the original RDR, however, where possible, we've reversed the direction we'll be going through most of these same roads, so while some of it might be familiar it will still be from a different perspective. The team is currently working on finalizing the entire route and we hope to have some timing and distance figures sometime in January. There will be loads of twisties, lots of elevation changes, tons of beautiful scenery, a minimal amount of 'through town' driving a couple of short highway 'jumps'. In other words there's a bit of everything for everyone. What's for lunch? Lunch will once again be held at the Putnam Plaza Shopping Center. The following is some of what is available. McDonald's, Wendy's, Friendly's, KFC, Starbucks, Quizno's, Carvel, a Greek deli, Sushi, Pizza and more! Hopefully there is something for everyone's tastes. What kind of rally will this be? Family or fast paced? Actually believe it or not it will be both. How is this possible? By keeping those who wish to drive slower and casually in the front it allows them to stay with the leader who will be doing on or close to the speed limit. The back of the pack by its very nature is always trying to play catch up. Which means those hanging in the back will be traveling faster then those in the front. Sounds strange but it works ![]() What kind of roads will we be traveling on? The route covers some of everything. We've tried to minimize the amount of 'through town' driving as much as possible; however there will be some traffic lights and busy areas to deal with. We will of course regroup as needed. There are a couple of short highway sections, this is mostly for convenience and to allow us as much time in the twisties as possible and still allow us to end at the start point. There are some dirt roads too. I hear your groaning already but rest assured these roads are pretty well maintained, and we'll be running them right before the run to ensure they have remained in good condition . Think of any kind of road you enjoy and chances are we'll be on a similar one at one point or another of this run .What bodies of water will we see? In no particular order we’ll be passing by Croton Falls Reservoir, Diverting Reservoir, Middle Branch Reservoir, Lake Glenida, West Branch Reservoir, Boyd Corners Reservoir, Sagamore Lake, Canopus Lake, Pelton Pond, Beacon Reservoir, Tibet Lake, Titicus Reservoir, Gem Lake, Farrington's Pond and Wiccopee Creek. There are also numerous unnamed ponds along the way. Bring your cameras, there’ll be lots to photograph along the way . Are there hotels available? Yes There were a few criteria the start point I chose for this run, one of them was availability of lodging options for those traveling from afar. Danbury is home to a number of hotels and motels, including Quality Inn, Super 8, Ethan Allen Inn, Residence Inn by Marriott, Comfort Sites, Best Western, Microtel Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn, Best Value, Best Inn & Suites and Radisson Hotel & Suites. All of these hotels are within a 4.6 mile radius of the start point. If anyone wants contact info for any of these hotels, please let me know and I will provide it. If there are several people wanting to stay at the same place, again let me know and I will look into group rates. Will there be a birthday celebration? See THIS thread for all the info and to sign up for the pre-party.
