That article actually reminded me to send an e-mail to MINI USA. It seems that there has been a significant failure in my seat warmer where it has started to burn holes in the actual seat. Inskip MINI said the part to "fix" this is $300. I don't think I should have to pay for that so I sent an e-mail to find out if MINI USA would help. It's burned my seat covers and I'm afraid it's going to catch fire. Has anyone else heard about this?

Beth,
They will first tell you the seat covers may be part of the issue ...

In the e-mail I sent I told them that we have the seat covers on them but the way they are attached to the seats it couldn't be the cause of the seat issue as it started happening before I put the covers on it. I haven't been able to use my seat warmers in almost 4 1/2 years. And I was out of my warranty when it started happening. I'm alright with not using them and if they come on accidentally coming on I can turn them off but when there is some sort of burning going on that's when my fear started.

And, to add to the MINI niggles, as we went to the car to leave the Grand Summit Hotel, the auto-lock/unlock on the driver's door stopped working. Fine on the passengers side. Inserting the key in the door doesn't actuate the electronic lock/unlock but, of course, does the manual lock/unlock. As would be expected, the auto-lock at 10 mph doesn't lock it either. All other electronic locking is just fine, however.

Must get out the service manual, look for the door innards, and track this down...

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Theo

I've had the boot popping unlatched while driving. Then when I stopped to push the hatch down, the boot locked itself. As soon as I started driving, it unlatched again and the idiot light came back on...

For the past couple of years at MOT our boot has stayed locked and wouldn't open even though there was nothing in the latch. Happened again this year, I think it's the proximity to all the other MINIs that causes the problem, this is just a hypothesis though.

That's probably because you don't drive it.
