Steve - Watch out for these in those Maine woods:

And I thought you could add these to "Bush Bling" collection:

Just Saw on Ch7 news coverage of a BRG/wt MCS that punted a MBTA police paddy wagan into the Charles river... owner of the MCS and his wife were on the way to work and making a U turn on the bridge... MINI Owned by Dave Bloomfield and he and his wife Ann were not hurt and neither were the 2 officers in the paddy wagon... remarkably littie damage to their MINI either... lots of TV coverage though

With a whopping 250 miles of experience, yeah, it's great.

I wasn't expecting it to make a perceptable change in the car's performance, but it has. At least for now. I know people will say it's all in my head... but, I don't plan on measuring anything anytime soon, so if my head thinks things are better, that's good enough for me. I wonder if there's an engine computer adaptation thing going on, and the "smooth" performance I felt on the way home will be adapted away... wierd that the behaviour of the ECU seems to be that when something changes, the performance feels great for a while, then it slides back to the way things used to be. You'd think it would be the other way around.

Ayway, the Borla for the Cooper. Honkin' big 4" tip (flared out, the tubing is only 3" I think). But, it doesn't look too boy-racer as the tip is coming out of a rectangular muffler, not a giant tube like you see on the civics. The idle sound is great. It does that little burble thing when you let off the gas (more than the stock one does). With the cruise set at 70mph, the AC on, and all the windows closed: going downhill, no real noticable noise level change; flat ground, a little louder than before, but not bad; going uphill, kinda noisy. I don't mind it too much, and I think these things are supposed to settle down a little over time. But, it's not as quiet as stock. If you're nervous about putting an aftermarket exhaust on your Cooper, the Borla will probably dissapoint (as will all the others, I'd bet).

Performance changes so far: much smoother. Before, when I got on the gas hard from coasting, there'd be some negotiations before things went vrooom. And, when letting off the gas, there'd be some jerking. On the trip home, both of those were greatly lessened. Also, there seemed to be a bit more torque down around 3000 rpm, which is really nice. But, the surge that used to come on just above 4000 rpm is gone. Not that it feels slower, there's just no noticable jump in torque at that point anymore.

We'll see if in a week or so everything goes back to behaving like it used to. That seems to be the way it goes with these things (intake, exhaust, or ECU reflashing from the factory).

Memo to the Cod:

Loose the reel type leash. They are actually dangerous to both animal and human as the line is too thin and potentially restrictive with pain. Plus, folks tend to let the dog out 4000 feet on them, right Brad? Go with a gentle leader if pulling is a problem.

Looks like I missed another great lunchtime MOPmeet today, judging from Ian's pictures! What great shots of Pip. I'm thinking it's too late fore me to get up for the Chasm tomorrow...but are we braving Charley for Ice Cream on Sunday? I still plan to be there.

Charley run is on - unless we have to swim for our ice cream -

I hope all is better soon, John. I like seeing you happy.

I personally have little reason for staying home. Sanity is that little a reason. My car WILL break if I go anywhere in it.

Things that make me happy

1. I've got 1 grandchild who is unbelievably cool....Maureen has6

2. I'm a member of the best club I know, peopled by the best folks in the world (and some of the strangest)....you guys and ladies.

3. To my knowledge, there are no outstanding warrants with my name in bold.

4. I got up in the air today for 2 hours for the first time in forever and remembered how to ride that 'bike'...although my landings were less than buttery.

5. Scooter did not bite me this week.

Do we batten down tonight or what???

Peace and prayers John.
With your sadness you were able to "break the surly bonds of earth" and be at one with the sky and your thoughts.
Julia was 92. She left a public legacy. Your family member leaves one as well. Less public perhaps but none the less to be celebrated.
Benny and Joon will be replaced. Do you wish Tape or DVD?. It's yours? The movie and the equipment to play it on. Debris from Gateway .
Just as you miss Maureen. You were missed at The Races. She will return, as will the races. It's the natural order.
Peace and prayers my friend

Jason,
On my weblog someone asked which Borla it was - can you either post a comment there, or let me know so I can follow-up ... thanks, and glad you are enjoying it. I think we need a sound recording of it (like that ad of the ugly Porsche(?) on TV)

Ya know, the more you post the cooler you become. Things change, as they should in the grand scheme of things.

I decided not to do the NY Saratoga trip, couldn't see making the kids put up with all that time on the road. Instead stopped over at Purgatory. Took my two and a 5 year old friend of Anna. Fortuitously met up with Sideways (who last week wanted to kick my butt) and his two young 'uns. Turns out his oldest will be going to the same school as Emma in September. Anna made a great friend of his son. We hurt ourselves on the rocks, ate ice cream.

And I didn't get my butt kicked. Yet.

So, things change, things work out.

And speaking from a personal point of view, being "bakered" ain't all that bad.

I'm gonna get the new Kelly kid involved in setting up a Central MA stupidness. We will be doing Nash DinoLand. You will be there.
