New front brake pads are on, and the car still stops!
I'm begining to discover that driving a car fairly hard for 73,000 miles can get expensive. Brakes aren't that bad - I'm pretty sure the front pads I took off were the original pads from when I bought the car. They were only worn to the point that there was about as much pad thickness as backing plate thickness, so there was still some pad material left.
My tires aren't down to the wear indicators, but they probably won't pass inspection next month (especially after some track time). I bet the struts are pretty worn, too.
While I was working on the MINI, I noticed that one of the drive shafts (half shafts? the thing coming from the transmission that makes the wheel spin) has lost most of its black coating (paint?). But, since MoP has been down there a few times changing the transmission, I'm not too worried about that right now. Also saw that the rubber seat on the top of the front struts seemed to not be sitting right - probably a sign of wear.
So, I plan to call MoP tuesday to double check the prices for replacing the struts with stock and doing the
JCW suspension upgrade. If the prices are still almost the same, I'm gonna schedule time to do the
JCW suspension. Then trash the tires on the track, then put new tires on so I can pass inspection (and be safe).
Only a couple thousand dollars.
