I'll try to get them on the car this weekend, and if I can find my camera I'll get some pics.

$3.79 + tax (no gratuity involved).

Can't be more than 10 minutes worth of effort to get them on the rear window.

If it works out, I'll be happy to install on any MINI within 75 miles of Worcester. Just have the case of Guinness ready when I arrive. What a deal.

John, a nagging question, you may know the answer.

Pertaining to the first part of my post, where the parends come in, should the period be contained within the parends or outside, as I have them?

You be rite, mon. Some might argue that, within your parends, you have a complete sentence deserving of its own . but I submit that that is unnecessary, your parenthetical comment is just a comment not a sentence. If you had wanted it to be one, you woulda had it be one.

Why would someone do that to a defenseless MINI?
What did it look like after the run? or was it put back in its trailer and taken home until the next show?

That's the first time I've seen those doors except on ebay pages... I didn't think they really worked. Someone's spent a lot of money on a MINI..!!!

They're cheap-o wannbe Lambo doors... That's what I meant when I said they'd spent a lot of money... Much as I love my car, at the end of the day, they've spent all that money and they've still only got a MINI under there. Think of what they could have bought...
But, that's not the way they see it - they'd do the same to a more expensive car. To each their own.

Now a 1956 300SL, now THERE'S a car..!

My Dad had a 300SL gullwing he bought it new in 1955 when I was 7 and I would curl up in the shelf behind the seats when he and Mom went out. it was in a silver with a touch of green metalic paint with red leather interior. an it was beautiful
8 years later he took me to Lime Rock and introduced me to his friend John Fitch (the only yank to ever drive for the M-Benz team and winner of the production class in the last real 1000 km road race in Italy in a 55 gullwing).
He had Mr. Fitch spend a week teaching me how to drive it on the Lime Rock track... 4 wheel drifting through the esses... fantastic memories of the summer of 64.
a year later when I was 17 my Dad started letting me drive it on my own and between us when it was sold in 1979 we had put a total of 286,000 miles on it in 24 years...
one of the saddest days of my life to that point was when he had to sell it for only $125,000 and I could not afford to take it on...

Unhappy

Had to go to NH today for a training course. Just as I was about to turn off I-93 (jct 2) I hit a pothole or an failed expansion gap on a bridge. It was a sharp bang that I felt through the whole car. When I got to where I was going I looked at the wheel (drivers side, front) and sure enough the alloy was cleaned at the edge where the rubber had rubbed over it. The rim didn't look dented (17" 8-spokes) but there is a bulge in the run flat tire wall.
What should I do - I drove home on it, but at 50 - 60 mph getting passed by everything on I-93. Should I get it replaced immediately..? Do I have any comeback against NH. I'm sure this won't be cheap.
The craziest thing is that just near there on Monday (going to the same training course) I saw a highway reapir truck stopped in the shoulder. There were two guys in yellow vests standing by it, but they were in the shoulder, so I wasn't going to pull out into lane 2 because I was getting near my exit. As I got closer I saw a HUGE pile of tarmac in the middle of lane 1. If I'd have gone over it in the MINI there's no way the front spoiler would have cleared it. This was at 8am with the lane open. It looked like they were running out in a gap in the traffic to throw down some loose tarmac and then letting the traffic flatten it down..!! I don't know if it was the same exact place that I hit today, but it was close, so I think they know there's problems there, but they're not treating them correctly.

Now I've got 2 kerbed wheels and a bulging tire - of course all on different wheels. Time to put the 16s back on and get the 17s repaired I suppose.

Document al if you can, time and date, a picture if possible. Submit a claim to the proper authorities. Don't expect too many good things to happen, usually there has to be prior notification of the hazard submitted to the needed department, hard to prove there was.

But now's the time to get regular tires. Runflats are for the birds. My sister just got a MINI in Oklahoma, I recommended that she get the standard tires. Easy to replace, economical.

Damn,

I was heading up 93 last night on my way home from Logan but diverted to Rt.3 (via 495). There was a huge accedent at exit 2 on 93 with traffic backed up for miles. I wonder if that pothole was the cause of the accedent.

Call the state highway department and see if there is anything you can do or get from them.

Bummer
don't tyres have road hazard warranties anymore?
Are your 17" runflats the all season or the performance? and are they Dunlop or the other one... and does it make any difference?
15 years on the range rover and aside from the odd nail ... well I do not think we had more than 3 or 4 flats in all that time when we did it was due to running on the beach with too little air and loosing the bead seal and it was easy to fix with a can of hairspray shoot the spray into the tire and then ignite the spray like a flame thrower then spray the flame in the tyre... explodes and reseats the bead... works every time an old army trick but in the army we used cans of starting either

Winslow, it could well have been the cause - that or the mound of tarmac from the day before...
Jeff, I was planning on getting some non run-flats, but on the 16in wheels for the summer because they're lighter. I imagine that if I'd have hit the same hole with light(er)weight wheels and non run-flat tires I'd have broken a rim and been walking home. When my wife kerbed the first wheel and we took it to MOP to look at the scuff to the tire side wall, someone there told us that the run-flat sidewalls are 2in thick... That much rubber must be able to soak up a lot of impact, but I guess the bulge shows it still needs somewhere to go to.
Windshadow, I think the hazard warranty was extra, but I'll go and look at my paperwork.

What is the general opinion on the safety..? I certainly wouldn't take it on the track in this condition, but if I stick to the speed limits, do you think it's OK to drive on..? A run-flat side wall isn't going to fail suddenly is it..?
