If you like the 'Schmitty you'll be equally enamoured of the Issetta. Four wheels but a very nice entry.

Wasn't the Issetta famous for not having a reverse gear, so if you parked too close to a wall you couldn't get out..? Seems like an urban myth to me - maybe it had the same system where you could run the engine 'backwards' and have many reverse gears.

Not intimate with the details of the car. I just remember it since my High School English teacher drove one in 1964. I googled the pic. Lots of sites out there. Very interesting.

Depends on the year for the Isettas. Later ones had reverse the earliest did not. In the case of the Messerschmitt, starting in 1955 reverse was achieved by changing the polarity of the starter allowing the engine to run "backwards".

Wasn't the Isetta produced in a 3 wheel version also?

Most of these little cars had a 2-cycle engine under the hood. Easily configured to have the engine run "backwards" as it may be. My first was a '67 SAAB 96. Tons 'o fun that car was.

Hey Butcher, BakerJC, Candlestick maker .

I also had a SAAB back in 1969. The Wagon with freewheeling. Four on the colomn and loved shifting without the clutch. Engage freewhelling and the engine could overrun the tranny. Cruise at 75 MPH at 2000 RPM. Whatever was saved on gas was spent on brakes slowing the beast down with no gear interaction. The wagon had these little fin things. Very interesting ride over the Rockies. Travelling below the Mason Dixon line we were always being asked What kind of car is that ?". Forty years later same bride different car, same questions. Life is good!
Remember the Monte Carlo version. Sweet. Took my wagon cross country with my new Bride after graduation. Eight months of campimg and Motoring.

Hey Bakerdude..I think I followed you up the Auto Road on your first ascent of Mt Washington. Was that you?

.

I could make the pictures BIGGER. If they were my pics John would they be that small? It was the 60's. Everyone was naked.
No it is not me but your request could be honored by PM. Look for me in MINI Hunks.

Max,
Is your Gateway store/career safe from the knife?
Gateway (the nation's No. 3 PC maker since its recent acquisition of eMachines) is closing 188 retail stores and laying off 2,500 employees

All remaining Gateway Country Stores fell to the blade and will be closed April 9th. I won ta trip to Vegas for being top 5 in nation last year. They have said "sorry no trip". No compensation. Little weasels didn't even have the courtesy to notify the employees before they went out to media.

I was offered a position in South Dakota. I don't think so. Ever see the movie 'Fargo"?

You're stuck with me in New England. Beware posts from Maxamini when he has too much time on his hands. Time to bump the bandwidth.

I'm in the search mode. Standby world ..Maxamini is available.

Never did like those cow boxes..........reminded me of Woody Jackson. Let's get our collective head together and see what havoc we can cause. Let's send Max to Vegas.....no, let's send his lovely wife to Vegas and Max to Newark Let's get Max a job at New Country then create a pitched battle of the test drive between him and Hrach.

Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear.

Maxamini, I've already extended my condolences, but suggest that Gateway contact the US Gov't Labor Dept. to update their statistics... Oh, yes, and they did this on April Fool's day?

First love: MC CVT Indi Blue/White '04

Perhaps I'll show Mr. Chamberpot how to win hearts and minds. Do I want to relocate to Boston? John does your dirt road need paving? Maybe I'll become a bouncer at Rynborn to calm that rowdy MAMA crowd.

OTRA no need for condolences. Life is change. New opportunities await.
