| Are you serious! Don't care about the Mac but that display is almost worth selling the MINI for |
| ||||
| And posting here is the standard test procedure..?! ![]() Nice set up..! Ian, you don't even need to sell the MINI for that display any more. The price came way down... well, way down compared to what I paid for the 15" display that I originally had on my Cube..! ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. | Darn I'm gone for a day and miss this whole Mac/PC discussion. Once you add all the features of a mac (firewire, DVD-R, on and on) to a PC, especially to a laptop (none actually exist in the PC world in the same form factor), from a quality manufacturer, you'll find the prices about the same. Just started my new job today as Apple Tech here (I was help desk), and so far my machines include: Dual 2GHz G5, 1.5 GHz MDD G4, 3 more older G4s, Bondi iMac. But my favorite is this PowerBook 2400 I found in a drawer. Still boots too! No PCs...I had a dual 3 GHz Dell but all I ever used the thing for was collecting viruses, installing patches, and generating heat. |

| Bet your butt it's standard procedure. Gotta task the systems with the worst possible use. Wish I had one of those setups....I'd be able to post twice as fast. With twice the inanity. I picked up my Cube at of all places CompUSA....went in to by a replacement modem for my 6500, found a floor demo 450 Cube marked way down, and a 10% storewide sale. Got the Cube with a 15" (cutting edge at the time) Apple LCD. Paid $1800.00 for all. Went home with my tail between my legs fearing the wife. Interestingly the only problem I ran into was my youngest being upset, she wanted the Flower Power iMac. Last week I put a 1.2GHz G4 Sonnet card into a 450MHz Sawtooth. Incredible. I see an upgrade in my Cube's future. And in reply to your question in the PM, look for a log file that details the install of the MS drivers. Then do a lookee see if they've been removed with the uninstaller. Have you got an iSight? I bought one months ago, have not used it. Don't know anybody else that has one (that I'd like to see....). |
| ||||
| Upgrade... DO IT...! ![]() I put the same 1.2 card in my Cube and haven't looked back. New lease of life. Yeah a G5 would be nice, but they're HUGE. The Cube sits on the IKEA desk next to a flat panel iMac and it all looks very minimal and european..! ![]() I have got an iSight... but you probably don't want to look at me..! I use it for video conferencing back home to friends and family. They took great delight in watching us shovel out that huge snow storm in Dec. Didn't have too much sucess with the cross-platform in the newest version of iChatAV but that could have been problems with the AOL IM client on their (PC) end. If only they'd listen to reason and buy a Mac..! ![]() Thanks for the hints about the log file, I'll dig around and see what I can find. ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. | I hate you guys, I have been doing some research on the Power Book, and I really really want one... Now that my coworker and I have figured out how to get into work using remote desktop and 10.3, things might be looking up. Now I just need to start saving my pennys.... | I played with the Cisco VPN Client today (version 3.7? 2.7? I'll need to make sure...). Worked like a charm with the latest 10.3, all updates applied. Could be some tweaks needed on the server side, I'll see if I can find out. 1.2GHz will set me back $400. Can't quite justify it right now, this is my home machine. eMail, browsing, light Photoshop etc. No video editing yet. |

| Winslow, Go and try one out in the Apple Store in Salem and you'll REALLY want one then..! JB, When could anyone really justify more speed..? Are you running 10.3 on 450MHz..? How is it..? Surely you can justify it for that alone (and a new graphics card for the Quartz Extreme stuff!). Mind you, that's one of the Mac advantages - that you're not locked into the OS upgrade -> processor upgrade -> OS upgrade loop as bad as those PC guys are. I think OS X will run on all but the ealiest G3 laptops... try that with wintel..! ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. | 10.3 on a 450 is fine. As I said: email, browsing, other light stuff. No gaming. Runs fine. Well, not as fine as on the G5 Dual 2, but what the hey. $400 is 20% of a G5 Dual. I'd rather go that upgrade route. By the time I have $3000 they'll be shipping G5 4GHz Duals. This past Friday I assisted in ordering a tricked out 17" G4 1.33MHz PowerBook. Those are fun too. |
