Yes, seriously. My grandfather, God rest his soul, was a bit of a "wild" fellow for those times of rum runners and all. He and his family apparently spent a fair amount of time up in Lake Placid and , if my memory serves me correctly, it was The Cadillacs who used to play up there and made the song up about him. He was sort of a young tycoon type...one of the original commodities broker types. This is, at least, the story I was told since I can remember.

One day sometime in the 1970's, I think it was, my mother was driving along in her VW Bug and a much newer version of "Speedo" came on the radio - the one by Jesse Collin Young - and she practically crashed the car... Had to pull over and listen to the song - then promptly went out and bought the album.

Woman charged with stabbing ex-boyfriend


HYANNIS - A Hyannis woman was charged with assault with intent to murder last night after she allegedly stabbed her estranged boyfriend in the back with a kitchen knife.

Police accused Louise Lamb, 39, of stabbing the man about 9:20 p.m. after an argument over who had drunk the last beer at her apartment at 525 Ocean St.

Police said the man was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of what police said appeared to be a non-life threatening wound.

Police said Lamb was being held in protective custody last night. She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge in Barnstable District Court today. (Published: December 19, 2003)
