Ian, it was a yearly competition for all of us that went through boy scouts and attempted to shave a car out of a block of wood. All it really was was a competition of how good a woodworker your father was...I always lost. Maybe that explains why I now have the top-of-line Dremel XPR kit just in case something like that comes up again!

Poltroon! (Somehow I never get tired of saying that!) I made the mistake of reading that thread yesterday, and the guy is from a town in FL next to where my parents live in the winter. (And they wonder why I never want to go visit?) Also graduated from the same college (though maybe a branch of it) that my crazy coworker graduated from. (Or so she says...)

Hey now! For your information, the next MINI is going to be a stick and I've had several lessons. I'm ready to go. Now start buying tickets!

There's going to be a 'next MINI' for you too..? Are you trying to catch Ian?

Where have you been?! I've been trying to ditch Vinny for months. And I'm a long way from catching up to Ian. GMINI's the only one that has a chance.

Apparently everyone gets the same wheels?

There is a "full size" fishbox derby here in Gloucester each year, which I enjoy watching ...

Yea...to keep things fair everyone starts with the same official BSA kit

For the scout races there are a bunch of rules (only official tires and axles, min/max height, width & weight restrictions, etc.) but for "unofficial" races you could make your own rules.

Some folks (parents) take it so seriously they actually made a movie about it: Down and Derby
