Hi NoNo: Real bad to be away from home and sick like that. Having flown over a million AOS miles in the past 20 years I can tell you Gatorade was the only thing that I could take that kept me hydrated and helped get the lower GI tract going again. 2 qts a day for like three to four days always worked for me.

Thanks for the tips guys. I definitely need some fluids. I think there's a vending machine on the floor below me, which is as far as I'm willing to stray from the room at this point. It's bound to have ginger ale or gatorade or both. Maybe I can combine the two to make a new, superdrink that cures all stomach ailments! If I can work up the nerve, there's a market a block or two up the road. Might try to get some pepto. I don't know if it'll help the pain in my stomach, but it's worth a try.
NoNo - Is the pain localized centrally or low down and off to one side or the other? Is there a sensation of warmth associated with this? Any tenderness?
The hotel likely has a physician on call for guests who take ill.
Bacillus cereus: Causes mild illness with rapid onset of vomiting, with or without diarrhea and abdominal cramping. It is associated with rice (mainly fried rice) and other starchy foods such as pasta or potatoes. May also be used as a potential terrorist weapon.
I had rice last night! Was I the victim of a terrorist attack? I also had shellfish. Maybe I have competing bacteria.
The stabbing sensation is located smack in the middle of my stomach. I've had just about every stomach ailment out there, and this doesn't feel like any of the usual suspects. No warmth, either. Never heard of a doctor at a hotel. Oh, where is Cathleen???
Not lateralized and no warmth or tenderness tends to eliminate one possibility. I didn't say the doc was in residence at the hotel, but some of the better hotels may have a list of local physicians who you could contact. If you continue to feel bad you can go to the Emergency Room if no doc to contact.
I love food, but this is why I steer clear of shellfish as much as possible. I hope you get better soon, and yes, a mixture of gatorade and ginger ale should really help.
Annette.. if you do soft drinks (especially Gatorade.. which is actually a good suggestion) try to pick ones with a lower sugar content or diet if possible or you'll wind up aggravating situations on the "other end", if you catch my drift.. if there's a local drug store there's a product called "Pedialite" or something like that which is really good for replenishing fluids without all the sugars that can cause.......diarhea ("Cha-cha-chaaaa"... sorry, couldn't resist! )
Yeah, I remember THAT one. Suffered for four hours before being rushed into the hospital and then to the OR. And now I am minus one useless organ, or at least the pieces of what it used to be.
(I know what you are thinking and shame on you!)

No. I said "hospital" not the "Hellas National Free Clinic and Animal Testing Lab".
Say...if I recall correctly, aren't you off to the CR in a matter if days? How are you feeling? Do you still have your appendix? Have you thought of pre-emptive surgery for THIS journey?

If you've had shellfish recently, that might be the most likely source of virus or bacteria- may not be food posioning per se but why quibble? Gallbladder doesn't sound impossible but you're young yet, and from what I've heard you would have had more notice of subtle signs before now.
Definitely get fluids, gingerale, Gatorade, Pedialyte are all good suggestions. Keep as hydrated as you can.. I have never tried Pepto-Bismol but it might be helpful, or something like Pepcid.
Imodium might make it worse, but if you have diarrhea and you're trying to make it on a flight home it might make the trip easier for you, the person next to you and anyone else wanting to use the rest room.
If you can't keep fluids down at all, have a fever, or if the pain doesn't subside once the offending substance has theoretically exited your GI tract, then I think a view of Seattle's finest medical facilities may be worth investigating. My brother had a very intense GI bug after eating blue fish once, though it might have been worse because he was under the mistaken impression that raisin bran would be a good idea. (Well, maybe it helped get the icky fish through, but...)
Can't help you there, but last week I got me some tickets for Sunday 5/28, and at face value no less. That day is "Vermont Day" at Fenway, and being a genuine authentic Vermontian type person (complete with dairy farming and granite cutting relatives and a birkenstock-wearing brother), I qualified for the "special sale". Actually, I only qualified to have my name put into a drawing to see what people would be offered the opportunity to buy tickets. I "won" that, made it past the Sox evil "online waiting room", and got my tickets. Now if only I could do something so they weren't playing the Devil Rays that weekend. Ugh.
