Nice to hear of so many sailors in the group. BTW, Jock, there's a good sized fleet of restored Thistles racing on the Hudson in the Nyack area. All are beautifully kept.

Small lake sailing is the pits in my opinion unless there are few surrounding hills. Newfound Lake in NH is OK 'cause of that but the Stoddard lakes are horible to sail on. Most go to Sunapee or Winnie altho the stinkpots cause much havoc with us purists.

I'm an old salt water, western LI Sound guy who misses chances to sail large or small.
Bluejays, Lightnings, Stars, Rhodes 18&19, a Moth (mini 505), Dragon, Herreshof S, International, Shields (I sailed with Corny and his son Glit), Tartens, C&C, a Bermuda Race, @ 5 grand tours, and for my favorite memories frostbiting in both IC dinghies and Dyers. Old sailors never die, they just get a little dinghy.

Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear.

I came really close to joining the boston club that lets you rent those boats that sail around on the charles river. Last I checked it was $175 a year, good for you and a guest, sail all you want. And I believe it is by law $1.00 for kids for the summer.

That's a great deal, Josh - The only downside to the "sail all you want" is that is if a boat is available... - but still an awesome deal. Grew up with Beetlecats, Sun/Sailfish, Wianos, both Junior and Senior, to sail out of Bass River on Cape Cod. In fact I have an early '50s Sailfish with original wooden mast and boom - though if I drag it out I use an aluminium rig purchased much later though these days having to sit flat (no cockpit) doesn't work to well for these old bones.

I've never sailed on a lake...I just love the ocean so much. I've raced a ton on LI Sound, but mostly in big IOR and IMS boats. Besides the Herreshoff 12.5, 2 others that I wouldn't mind owning are a Shields and a Dragon. Oh and there's a huge class of Internationals that still race on Mondays up in Northeast Harbour up here in Maine...love those boats too.

Yeah, they're all following Secco's FedEx truck around.

Speaking personally, I'm gonna miss you guys! Having met some of you very briefly last year - but getting to know you on here much more - I'll miss seeing you at MOT.
Yes, there is a full roster of others to meet, greet and hug - but wish you could be there. I'm sure there will be plenty of piccies all around.
I've been in Cleveland the last two days, just shy of halfway to New England, but drive back to Grand Rapids tomorrow. Fly out Thursday - whup Mart at Scrabble one-on-one that night - and join the YC Area 51 group for my first-ever drive with more than one Mini!
I drove Ed's last year, but both times I had one of my twins in the car - they're 15 an on their learner's permits - so we were in the slighted spirited but relatively sedate mode. Looking forward to just a few twisties.
One we're up there I'm just going with the flow....
I really can't wait

What the heck kinda excuse is that!?!? What's to sort out upstairs if it's nothing but a vacant attic? You need your mini friends to help you sort things.
