| Ice Racing, Feb 8th, 2004 **Final pre-registration info...1st page** February 8, 2004 ~8am-5pm Newfound Lake, NH *** Meeting time/place: 6:30am at the NH State Liquor Store on I93. *** Steve is going up on Saturday and Dianne comes down from Maine...I think meeting up is me, Joe, Carl, and Richard and possibly more...if there is anybody else coming up that way, let me know. If you are not pre-registered...read this, right from Stan. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you Pre-Registered online AFTER Saturday, January 24th, your information did NOT come through and you are NOT Pre-Registered. I think that would be just Diane, unless other people happened to get in that day. Stan is accepting pre-registration from an Excel document, which I have hosted here: http://www.lagparty.org/~jared/iceracing/ You need to fill one out for each driver/vehicle/tire combination, so if someone else will be driving your car, you'll need to do a 2nd one. Please email the Excel doc back to Stan at jackson@boston-bmwcca.org Here are some relative links: Boston BMWCCA Homepage Ice Racing Page Ice Racing Bulletain Directions to the lake The bulletain can also be emailed to you, but that page should be updated with ice conditions weekly. Poor Joe went up last week only to find nobody there, the ice wasn't thick enough. They did run today so I can't imagine that we will have any type of huge thaw by the 8th. Cost is $20 for non BMWCCA members, and $15 for members. Boston to Bristol is 104 miles. ![]() No helmets necessary. So far on the 8th we are going to have: pezboy Cape Cod MINI MEmini JR9907 cscholz rfinprc NHRef iancull nlevine GMINI If we get cancelled on the 8th for whatever reason...the following weekend is a memorial race where some of the money benefits local charities. It is $5 more. I will be away though that weekend. We'll see...hopefully the 8th will go off without a hitch. Please post if you are going to come, or if you think this idea is lame. If you say it is lame then you will shame yourself in the eyes of The Cod and friends. It should be really fun! "Just keep heading into the wind. Don't let anything blow you over." | Yeah, do get clarification on if it is still possible to get signed up so others could actually run. It would be fun to try some ice driving without those pesky guardrails around. Had a close call a couple of weeks ago... I love DSC! I found some black ice on a right hand curve on some 2-lane. 50MPH zone, not "suggested speed" sign for the curve, but it is fairly tight for a 50MPH zone. I hit it at 50, no "push" or understeer, just a 4-wheel drift towards the left lane followed by some oversteer. DSC brought everything back in line faster than I could. I then decided to skip the shortcut through the mountains to the ski area and get back on the highway. But, back to the question at hand... if it's still possible to get in on the action, I may be interested. |

| Joe Marko, who works at HMS Motorsport, is Boston chapter president I think ... http://www.hms-motorsport.com/ From memory of the general meeting two weeks ago, I think they said they had changed to pre-registration only ... and I believe *everyone* has to help out with organisational stuff, track support, etc when not actually driving. |

| I emailed Stan Jackson who is in charge of the Ice Racing stuff. They may have switched to pre-reg only, but another page on the site mentions late registrations so I emailed him just to make sure. People get given assignments for when they need to work the track, but it wouldn't be all day. That was the penalty for late registration. "Just keep heading into the wind. | You can still register for the events. Pre-registration means that you have registered on-line at Boston-BMWCCA before showing up at the lake the day of the event. You do not have to specify which events you are attending nor pay in advance. It just makes Stan's life easier when you are pre-registered since you will have a number and run group assigned. These events are great fun and will definitely help to improve your driving skills. I have been attending the events for the last five years as often as I can. Be aware that the ice ramp onto the ice surface can sometimes be a bit "rough" and scrape the underside of the car. Peter 02 MC 02 VW Passat 4-Motion 88 M3 |

| Hey Joe, is the packie open Sunday morning? Jared, nice job. I'm glad you got this going again. Diane, you didn't preregister? Bummer. What now? I'll go up Saturday evening and motel it. Don't want to drive the 200 miles Sunday morning. Missing my buddies Dan, Ed, and Diane but glad I have three angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

| Just wanted to keep everyone updated...Stan emailed me back and confirmed that everyone must pre-register...however he told me to go ahead and have you guys pre-register. I have another email out to him saying that pre-registration seems to be locked out. I think the site wants to end pre-reg because for events like driving schools they do have a definitive end date for signing up. "Just keep heading into the wind. Don't let anything blow you over." | My guess (though Stan will have the definitive answer) is that registration is closed during the day of an event. Yesterday (1/26) was the first event so registration may be open again today for future events. I'll second Peter's comments about the fun. I've done this for years (on and off) and did 3 events last winter in the MINI. Peter, leave that Passat home this year and join the MINI competition. I think the NH liquor store parking lot is a good suggestion - very easy to find. I'm planning on the 8th as well as a few more. Carl |

| Joe, pick a time. I don't know how long it takes to get to the lake from the liquor store. Since you did a dry run last week, do you remember approx how long it would take? Pick and time and we'll be there. "Just keep heading into the wind. Don't let anything blow you over." Ed Smith / MaxaMini 6/14/05 |
