Offline | I have just spent a very pleasent time over the last few days reading Ian's fine web site http://www.gbmini.net/ What a great BLOG! Many thanks Ian for a lot of very entertaining information... nice photos too ![]() But your tale of horor over your trials and tribulations with Tweeter Nashua http://www.gbmini.net/mtblog/archive...o_issues.shtml Have chilled me to the bone. Now since I like Classical and folk music I expect the HK will do my 55 year old ears with their much diminished High Frequency acuity just fine but I have been looking at the Passport SRX With Laser Shifting http://www.escortradar.com/srx.htm To help me keep my license Now I realy do not want to shell out $1500 for this from a dealer but they turn up on ebay under 900 from time to time. but I am not sure I am up to installing sich a complex kit myself or should I just forget the fancy laser shifting tech and get an 8500 For $275 and suction cup it to the windscreen? I will be adding an IceLink for my MINI BRG iPod (see http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52852 and in passing why does not anyone but me think this is ) and the XMDirect http://store.myradiostore.com/xmdireforbm.html and a hands free mount for my Nokiea 3650 bluetooth phone.I want it all to look nice and with luck work well. SO I was wondering if anyone knows of a MINI ICE expert in our area S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | Praise for your site is well deserved ![]() Snek uses the Valentine not Escort Passport line that I am looking at but I will post the question in the ice forum So have you found a good MINI frendly shop or are you doing it all yourself and I still do not understand why my thread about getting your iPod painted to match your MINI dropped such a clanger those folks work is fantastic and you get a tougher more scratch resistant finish than the Apple original ![]() S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | Why did your iPod thread "drop a clanger"? Or do you mean zero response? I have not done more to my stereo since last summers Tweeter event. If I decide to do more, I will first consult with Jaysen Walker ("walkerjay") ... |

Offline | Yes the post about the painted iPods garnered no response and it realy is cool it has me confused about my own taste or lack thereof http://www.colorwarepc.com/products/accessories.aspx the work these folks do is fantastic and I was offering anyone else who wanted one of their paint jobs (on any of thestuff they do not just iPods btw) in MINI BRG to get it without the $99 custom paint fee I was just surprised that no one else liked the idea of getting their personal electronics painted to match their MINI ![]() Jaysen Walker's last post was in August when Lee was fired from MoP (btw where is he working now... sounds like a mechanic to know once the warranty runs out) is walkerjay still active with his MINIs perhaps on another board? Offline | Jaysen has *never* been very active on the forums, either here or on minicooperonline. He is busy having fun with his MINI, upgrading it, repairing the bits that he wears out ... He also runs a business or two! Here for example: http://www.chilico.com As for Lee, he has a base of people that have him work on their car ... personally I think the big issue for him will be no access to the equipment needed for diagnosis/etc. |

Offline | Yes I would think that with todays cars you would need a lot of expensive electronic Diagnostic equipment to do much other than quite basic stuff the ability and access to the Software upgrading tool would seem to be a must have item for example... Are the MINI shop manuals even sold by MINI? is there a Chilterns or the like book for the MINI? ~R S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | ![]() Are you still looking for an audio shop..? I went to Rich's Auto Sounds (I think it was called that) in Watertown when I was looking into stereo upgrades. I liked his attitude so much I did the work myself..! ![]() Ended up taking all back out again too - much like Ian's problems with Tweeter. Don't know if it's just some cars because some people have upgraded S stereos... |

Offline | I am most worried about installing the iceLink2 with my nav unit as I have heard the extra jumper needed to retain the Sat nav voice function makes it VERY hard to get the head unit back in without any loose connectors... my hands are large as well so memories of working on the ice in my 1967 m-benz 250SL which must have been assembled by Black Forrest Elves with hands the size of my thumbs tend to still haunt me! It looks like the XM-Direct will be not too hard for me to do... I just have to think about anti rattle mounting of its 2 boxes in the cubby... I expect I will use industrial strength Velcro Cheers S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | I you take the downtubes off from the radio / heater area there's reasonably good access. From what I remember the sat nav, CD inputs and aux inputs are all on one connector, so once the wires are in place it shouldn't be too bad. The icelink think looks very cool, but I can't justify the $$$ just for the steering wheel controls. I built my own aux input for very little money. I've found the 3M industrial 'velcro' to be very good. It's not really velcro style at all - the two sides are the same and are little plastic mushrooms. It's very strong when fully engaged - the double sided tape usually give up first..! |

Offline | the 3M stuff (what the heck is it called)is exactly what I was thinking of the new version of the iceLink is cleaner... it just has one wire for both music/data/control and power... Denison says I should have it by April 15th... my tax refund this year is going straight to all the toys for my Ghillie ![]() S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | I have been recommended the place below; anyone have anything to say about them either good or bad? I have not been able to find a web page or even an email contact for him which in this day and age I find a bit worrying in a ICE shop. Offline | Windshadow, Is it just things like the detector, the XM and the iceLink that you're having done..? In that case I think you'll be OK where ever you go to. The problems Ian and I had were in adding aftermarket amps to the MCS. Some people have done it successfully, but we had two very different installations but the same unsolvable problem. |
