Offline | Folks I need some help please I just had some bad news re the trade in Mini Peabody also own a range rover dealer in Peabody so since I am trading in a RR that part of the deal is being done by them and not the MINI dealer... and my salesman said that all I would get for it from them is $2500 and then they would offer it internally to their own employes for $3,000 and if no takers would send it on to auction... Take a look you will never see a more perfect 1989 Range Rover loaded with all options, new tyres and a full service history from Landrover Metro West (was Foreign Motors West when it was purchased) oil change every 3000 miles or 6 months with out fail etc. etc. http://homepage.mac.com/windshadow/PhotoAlbum9.html The problem seems to be Mass law on selling a used car as a dealer; where you have to offer a strong warranty and the risk with any old car of something very expensive letting go (the transfer-case on the RR is $4500 for a rebuilt exchange for example and even though mine is perfect the dealers have to look at that risk. So should i just Buy the new MINI outright and try to sell the Range rover myself out here this summer? It will mean owning 2 cars for a while with extra insurance that will require Also I loose the 5% of 2,500 sales tax break you get with a trade in or $125 not that with such a risible trade in offer that matters much. look at this from the Blue book on line Vehicle Value 1989 Land Rover Range Rover Base Original MSRP: $35,800 Body Style: 4D Hardtop 4WD Mileage: 50,000 Equipment Adjustment: $0 Back Condition Trade-In Value Retail Value Extra Clean N/A N/A Clean $3,790 $5,825 Average $2,290 $3,850 Rough $880 $2,175 Values based on extra equipment valued at $0 and an odometer reading of 50,000. Now other on line valuation places go up to Extra Clean which is what I think mine is and they show $6,750 for Retail and $5,500 for Trade in So I was thinking of asking $6,000 and taking $5,000 Is that too ambitious and will it scare folks away? It looks to me that even if it takes me 6 months to sell (which would be an insurance load of about $500) that any thing I can get above $3,000 I would be better off. but I have never Sold a car except to a dealer on a trade in before and I am worried about any pitfalls... Advice please? S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | Its easier selling at the dealer as there is no hassel but if its cash that your looking for and not ease of transfer then sell it outrite as you will most likley get more. I traded a 1996 BMW 328iS at MOP and they gave me a fair trade but I could have received $2 to $3k more if I wanted to deal with the hassel of a private sell. good Luck |

Offline | More $ sell yourself Windshadow, We sold our trade in privately. The dealer offered 800 sold for 3500. A little bit of extra cash to pay off the MINI. We used the Want Advertiser. You can place your ad on line. You don't pay anything unless your car sells. 10% or max of $95 dollars I believe. Web site is thewantad.com Very easy. We had to run the ad for two months, but it was worth having the extra to pay off the MINI. Hope this helps. By the way the RR looks in great shape. Is it a 5 passenger with folding seats??? ![]() |

Offline | Thanks, good advice. Yes the 60/40 back seat is quite comfy for 3 due to the flat floor and with it folded forward the cargo space is huge. Who ever gets this is getting a bargain... my late mother treated it like Rolls Royce... and as you would expect in someone who truly loved to motor (I got that trait from her ) she kept it immaculately and serviced it religiously.I guess I am worried about the nuts and bolts of selling it myself. you hear so many stories of scams and phony certified checks that you cash and then bounce a week or so later ![]() PS: I just saw this add in the "Want Advertiser" 150,000 miles! Make my perfect example with just 50,000 look cheap at that price ________ 89 RANGE ROVER. Blk, 4x4, auto. Trans just done, new muffler. AM-FM stereo cass. 146K mi. Exc. $5800; Call morns or wkends. Offline | This is the Add I thought I would run in the Island paper for a week or 2 before I get involved with the hassle and expense of selling to America What do you think? any changes before I send it in? I mention it was my mothers car to put across that this was a 'little old lady' car and not some fisherman's beach beater. Range Rover 89 50,000 Silver, tan leather, sunroof, loaded, top condition everything works like new, my late mother's daily driver until she passed away last year; photos at http://tinyurl.com/3fq9c book is $6,800 asking $5,900. Offline | Yes Clear Title in my name now; in fact the new title just came in the mail last week... that whole transfer process is the main reason I did not move on selling this any earlier. should I have put the title info in some way into the advert? Online | Wind, Do you want to get rid of it, or do you want to make money? If you just want to get rid of it, give it to MOP or advertise it at a very good price. Also, I am guessing you would have much more chance selling it on the "mainland"? |

Offline | Ian I guess a bit of both but I just can not give away a Range Rover in such perfect condition for $2,500.... less than 1/2 its value So I will try to sell it for a bit here on the island.... and if it has not sold by the time I take off on my trip I wiil give a friend my limited power of attorney to sell it and give him a 15% commission on what ever he gets for it Selling it "over there" will add a $170 cost to me to ferry it to America so the buyer could pick it up on the Cape so I will try it out here for a bit.... hey perhaps I could add it as a bonus with the sale of the house... " for only an extra $ 5,900, a ready to hit the beaches of Nantucket Range Rover, will be included with the house!" Such a Deal ![]() And one last thought... if it does not sell and I end up retiring someplace where the winters are hard I will need a winter beater to keep Ghillie safe and warm in the garage during the blizzards ![]() S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Offline | Well the Range Rover is Sold! and when I deliver it to them they will drive me on to Mini of Peabody to get my Ghillie! A MINI2 forum member( waves hand ) is buying it at my Forum members only price (see my first post where I mention my bottom price) so I will not have to go through the Bargaining process with the folks who read the newspaper add: which is a good thing as I have never liked the whole proccess of the offer and counter offer.I hope it brings them as much happness as it has brought us... Offline | My phone and email box have been very busy today since the paper came out and I have had 5 offers to buy at my asking price of $5,900 but I am still happy I sold it to one of our MINI2 owners as I know they will give it a good home... out here it would have become a fisherman's beater I think S BRG/W Randolph 3 PAC NAV Mid Coast Maine, U.S.A. ![]() |

Online | Randolph, I tried to visit MINI Peabody this afternoon to grab you a couple of pics of your MINI. But there were quite a few there. More important there were LOADS of prospective customers around. Both Keith & Martin were out on tests so I could not ask what your VIN was. Sorry. |
