I don't think the question is to avoid bike week, but avoid the foot race. If we go later say the 25th, then we can get there early. Let John ramble on for hours then go up at dusk. We don't have to wait for anyone to finish before we can use it. As for the bikes I don't mind them, I just don't care for the noise they bring. I rather share the road with them than an SUV with a huge trailer.

Lets do the 25th, as the longest day will be Monday or Tuesday this year. Besides it takes about 2 weeks for the Earth to start loosing daylight around then, so we still have plenty of time.

So for Recap, Make the weekend the 25th, we don't have the Race or Bike Week to deal with. The tent we might have to rent, but I don't mind putting in a few bucks more to get one.

So let It be written, so let It be said!

(Are we sure about the foot race date next year?)

I talked with Jesse at the auto road Sunday and he seemed firm that the 25th is the date for us. But we will need to get written confirmation (during the NEXT SIX MONTHS) before we start registration for next year.

Ease up everyone. It is only June 21st 2004 today

Might I suggest Mt. Everest? I know John spoke highly of Key West. Do we start a poll?

Keep up all the banter and good ideas guys, but please remember one thing:

I want to be there when Steve's head explodes. I do. Really.

And a promise:

There will be a film at 11:00.

Speaking of film at 11:00...

Did the TV News folks air their MOT 2004 piece yet? If not, will there be any dearth of folks recording and posting a copy?

That's a MOT 2004 question. This is a MOT 2005 thread. Please maintain some discipline.

Onward -- In the case of next year, the solstice falls between 2 weekends, so we have a choice. The biggest reason to choose door #2 is to avoid the excessive crowds at the Auto Road from the foot race. Loosing the bikers (they're never all gone) is either a fortunate or unfortunate side effect.

Okay, wait for it...

If we talk about moving anything, I'd like to suggest changing the optional early leg of the event -- do something other than Cadillac. Each year we have the central event at Mt. Washington, preceded by something different, with a good 3-5 hour drive in between. Of course, I can't think of a good alternative to Cadillac at the moment.

What about a drive from Quebec or Montreal to Mt Washington? A bit of a trek, but it would be “International MoT”. Not sure of the distance but probably about 150 miles.

Montreal would be much closer then Quebec City to Mount Washington. But, the drive from the US/Canada border to Montreal is horribly boring, and driving around Montreal is horribly congested. And there are very few of us who wouldn't think Montreal is "out of the way" as it is north of the Mount Washington area. I think there are only a few of us who actually drove south to Mount Washington.

But, as one closer to Canada than most of the others in the group, I'd be happy to gather some details if people wanted me to.

And, someone mentioned upstate New York (Lake Placid) as another alternate start location. Remember, there's a big lake between New York and Vermont... it's either a long ferry ride or a lot of driving to get from one side to the other. Then there's the pesky mountains of Vermont to get around, too. As the Maine contingent can probably tell you, east/west travel in northern New England is difficult.

OMG...!
3 pages and 40+ posts already...! Slow down guys..!
Montreal is cool, but I wouldn't want to start there for MOT..! There's also the issue of when the Canadian Grand Prix would be. Events like that haven't been planned yet - maybe we should slow down a little. I think this thread was started as a joke!

Why not start at the cape? Do some Cod-fishing?

Edit: No, traffic woes would be tenfold.

How about Mt Greylock in the Berkshires? Easy to get to from NY, MA and CT and probably a good drive over backroads through MA, VT and NH.

I also like the idea of Cape Cod, but could be a stretch for those coming from outside of NE and the drive up the interstate would be boring (but maybe not with 200 MINIs in convoy).
