Join Ocean State MINI Club for a drive though Rhode Island and picnic at Purgatory Chasm in Mass.

Great drive there and back! This run has twisty roads and mello roads so there is something for
everyone. We will be stopping at Pearls Cnady on the drive up a magical candy shop that will bring you back to your childhood. Hard candy, chewy candy, chocolate or hot roasted peanuts pearls has it! The drive up to Pearls is about 40 min. and from Pearls to the Chasm is another 40 minutes. A deli will be incorporated into this run in case anyone would like fresh sandwiches for there picnic.

"Purgatory Chasm runs for a quarter of a mile between granite walls rising as high as 70 feet. Popular with picnickers and rock-climbers alike, the Chasm is believed to have its origin in the sudden release of dammed-up glacial meltwater near the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago."

Ahhhhh, purgatory. on the way to worcester mass on 295 or something. RISD folks used to hang there from time to time. Nature. you know. My first feeble attempt at an oil landscape in those woods somewhere, while friends bouldered. Considering I may have a MINI, I may have a loaner, I may have a rental, a may have a brand new Saab 92x, and I may have to go to the phillymini meet the next day anyway...

I heartily recommend a visit to Purgatory Chasm!

I grew up not far from Purgatory. Now I live in Hell.

Seriously, we used to hike and climb there. My brother's pocket knife was used to perform a tracheotomy on a guy who had fallen off the cliffs.
Close by in Uxbridge are some great streams where I still catch native trout. It's a nice area.

Missing my buddies Dan, Ed, and Diane but glad I have three angel buddies, And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs

Any updates on this? I'm thinking of putting together the Massachusetts MINI Ruffian Mob to intercept the contingent from the lower states. I figure a nice MINI rumble may get us in the papers......

Maybe Diane Williamson could write this up - After all, I'm from Holden... :

I will be making a pre-run up to the chasm this weekend. I will then have a better idea of start time and travel time. I picked some nice roads on the way way up including a Cooper Rd. .
