Except for any reference to camping, put me down as a solid maybe. My idea of camping is a Motel 6. Keep the info coming, DR

Hopefully no-one is going to even suggest that idea, which raises the question: Is there anyplace to stay at the end of the road?

Ah, I am... but only as a supplement.

I LOVE winter camping. In this case, I think I will LOVE winter camping more, knowing there is a back up motel room to fall into.

I believe the general plans are that we will night-it at motels all along the way (you whooses).

There are plenty of motels up to the begining of the James Bay Road. After that, there is one in the middle of the road (but no reason to stay there) and at least 2, probably as many as 5, at the end of the road. I believe many of the Hydroplants get corporate and company type visitors. To them, I imagine the only thing worse then being sent there is being sent there with a tent and sleeping bag...

I have info coming from one of the motels. I've emailed a few more, but they haven't answered. As we get closer, someone can certainly call and block a group of rooms. Probably make the owner plotz at selling so many rooms (ie, anything more than 3) in the winter.

I looked but I can't find the proposed departure date. Is there something more precise than "February".

Where is everyone?
I sense an arctic silence here...
Question, what are the odds of my borrowing rims with snows, in February, from someone betwen Atlanta and Montreal for this adventure? I'm planning on getting 15 or 16s for autocross, but they may be too wide for snows....just exploring the options...

I bought a steelie for the spare to my Alloys. It was $55 or so from Tire Rack. They are Honda size rims.

That said, I am pleased to announce (trumpets heralding, please...) The Midwinter MINI Arctic Run web page

Only because I was bored tonight.

I'd be happy to post info, links, maybe the names as we get some, etc.

Stop in and drive the counter higher, will ya?

Night!
David

Great job, David.

I went in a few times and took it up to twelve, who's going to be the lagniappe - or baker's dozen....?

You are most correct about my "maybe" . By early September I'll definitely know if I'll be there - and I'm almost as good as a definite, crazy, insane yes. Just put me on the list ahead of the Codfather, who who I noticed was lurking around ....

This will be a cool - no, cold - no, f***ing cold - adventure!

...with cozy motel/hotel rooms for all of us wusses. Woohoo!

Woo hoo! Number 13!

Paul, 15" is fine for snows. (Fine for everyday driving too but I realize I'm in the minority here). For me the biggest debate about going (besides 'are you flipping NUTS?') is that I live in an apartment and don't really want to have 4 tires that I don't have space for, to add to the full size spare that I have in the kitchen. I'm not quite crazy enough to consider going without snow tires, either. Almost that crazy, but more practical.
