As a veteran of February, I admit to being one of the minority who did not enjoy the trip. In fact, we left to return a day early. The company was terrific, the cold weather bearable, the cars performed wonderfully despite some misjudgements by owners*.

To me, this was a desolate drive. I have often said it was akin to driving to Chernobyl. I have also often stated that the terrain was interesting for about 75 miles. But winter trips interest me still. I would prefer some plan that promises a variety of sights other than slogging through a major city then onto mile after mile of sameness punctuated by an occasional frozen lake to end in a dismal factory town.

Labrador and Newfy sound much better.

*I think I am referring more to tire choices and gimmicky add-ons to DR's famous flip.

Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear.

"I can't go to MOT because my son is graduating." "I might not be able to go to Hudson Bay because my son is in a play." What was that about stupid family commitments? Yeah, he's really messing things up with this trip. My brother wants to go on a cruise, I want to go to this. But two weeks in Italy for free? Kind of hard to pass up on. As for work, I guess I could call in "sick", but I doubt I'd be able to hide my excitement and not talk about the trip in the weeks leading up to and following it. So that would kind of blow my cover. I'd be in much better shape if I didn't have to take two days off to drive my car around the country to get it fixed, but that's another issue. Bangor, eh? Well, I'll be in Portland in two weeks, I'll see if I can handle the ride.

Oh Great, hold me to my past actions, why don't you.

John, there are two schools here and one is NE the other N. I get the sense not everyone is going to be happy, and I have to tell you I am bowing out of being the deciding word.

While I would like to do HB again, it will be my 3rd time, and I asked Ross to see if he could integrate some water action (ferry, etc) if we go NE. If he can I would probably lean that way.

Either way, it's great to be back in the action again. Glad everyone is discussing this. I know we won't be able to accomodate everyone, but let's see if we all can try to accomodate as many as possible.

Of course, if we can get Annettes dad to take us to Italy for two weeks... (ok, ok, Annette, I will stop now. I DO want you to come on the trip!)

Please, please fully consider all the aspects of this trip and if it's really something you want to do. I'd rather have 5 cars of really enthusiastic, prepared people, than 20 cars of tourists who didn't think this all the way through. As for destinations, I can only go on a shorter trip. While I'd love to do the Trans-Labrador run, I just won't have enough vacation time available. I guess that would also rule out the Churchill trip for me as well. Not that you can't go without me, but I'm just letting it be known that a long trip would exclude me. I'll keep watching and see what you guys come up with. I'll also keep grilling my dad and find out if this Italy thing is really happening next year.

is this supposed to translate into.. "Derek, I don't think you know what you are getting into, etc. etc." ? you could just say, "Don't go"..... I know it's a tough trip... that's why I would want to go... something different and challenging other than these "sprited drives in the hills on a warm saturday afternoon"...

anyways, when the details are finalized..

Stop the world, I wanna get off!!!

Derek! You know I love you! Just like you love Baker. I'm hurt that you would think otherwise. You know what? Now I don't want you to go. I don't ever want to talk to you again!

I definitely want to return to HB but in the summer next time.

Variety is the spice of life, so someone said. I'm in favor of a trip up and around Nova Scotia or up to Labrador/Newfoundland.

No gravel roads, even if they are ice-covered!

I love PEI in summer so would be willing to go there in winter. Plus, I've never driven the Confederation bridge, which could be a real hoot in a snow storm with heavy seas . . . DT, do upside down MINI convertibles float?

Depart NYC area on Thursday and return Tuesday gives a good range.

Return to Hudson Bay 2010 (and 2011) . . . not

The bridge has very high sidewalls. Very cool but you can't see squat. Points to he/she comes up with the name of PEI's favorite singer. ActualSize Rick knows but he's at the Glen.

Last time I went over that bridge it was in my Miata,John is correct all you can see is concrete.I believe the toll was $35.00 cdn and they collected on the way off the island.
