A closer destinaion and shorter route but still interesting is
Albany / Ithaca / Niagra (obCanada); a snow-lovinbg Subaru community
has done this as '48 hours of Tri-State' (TriState=PA,NJ,NY,CT (having four wheel
drive means can't count above 3)).

I saw healthy green grass in those photos!
Not much of a winter trip, but looks looks warm enough to qualify as a southern winter holiday.

1. Go another time zone eastward (and a half ?) than I've gone before ? Yes.

2. If the Hydro tour is back on, I would consider a repeat tour de Radisson.

3. BTW, I never noticed this page (from DuctTape's press release) before:

Great to hear it.

The dam is indeed open for touring again. It has been secured by having all tour participants show photo ID before entering.

It's also possible to tour the equally large Churchill Falls dam on the Trans-Labrador trip.

Anyone know a good Newfy joke? A good friend of mine, MD by profession and born and raised in Newfoundland, had the greatest collection of this genre....kinda a combo of blonde & ethnic & sickies. Sadly, I have forgotten them all and the Doc is long gone.

Let me see if I got this right? 24 very obvious looking people in 12 very loud looking cars (well, 11 made it there) might be terrorists, BUT, if we showed them a picture ID we'd be ok?

Don't terrorists have drivers licenses? How the heck did they all get on those planes? (I know, I know, some took taxis) If I don't carry the bris certificate of my first born male child they won't let me past baggage check...

Does your Homeland Security have the same airheads running the show our Homeland Security does?!?

I didn't get a chance to review your work this weekend. I will, promise, hopefully this week.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, as I recall it, the security teams were asking each of us individually if, somehow, we were connected to this bearded character (profiling at its Canadian best) and showing us a picture of you, David. It was after a number of affirmative answers that the gates were closed and locked to us all.

I know I just sent everybody a link to Aurora pictures tonight, but when I went back to surfing the web, I came across these pictures, taken about the same time we saw it:

http://www.aurorawebcam.com/photos.p...lery_2_18_2005

If memory serves well, this would've been 2 nights before we saw the Lights flash before our eyes?

nuts, busted again...

Amy, be careful making your airplane res. this year. You want to be sure the airline is still in business in Feb, and we want you there!

Now, yes. It took them about 2 weeks to come up with their new security policy (we arrived in the middle of it all). However, this was purely a Hydro Quebec decision. The 2 weeks is probably a good measure of the fastest that Hydro's bureacracy can make a decision.

Here's an interesting contrast though: I didn't need any ID to visit the US Capitol building last January, 10 days before Bush's second inaugaration.

Our new super-amalgamated-agency is called the Ministry of Public Security (I think). Pretty Soviet-sounding name if you ask me. Anyway, these guys make Homeland Security look truly competent in comparison. Border guards: still don't carry guns, and many crossings are manned by a single officer. Marine border detachments still don't have boats (have to depend upon the Canadian Coast Guard or RCMP).

US Airways, Delta, Northwest, Independence... who's next?

The US government is always bailing out (eg. subsidizing) the US carriers when they get into trouble. The good news is that this means Amy is unlikely to experience too much trouble. The bad news that Americans will pay for it through taxation, as they always do.
Meanwhile, as a Canadian taxpayer, I'm somehow on the hook for $3.7B in loans made to Delta and Northwest to buy our (Bombardier) planes. Argh.

Both gov'ts just love to shovel money into this industry.

Don't forget United -- about to come out of BK, too.

Let's see, which major carriers still get to go to BK this round .... Who's left who hasn't gone already this round?? American? Southwest? America West? ....

(Just visited Dad's side of the family in Wisconsin & Minnesota -- luckily didn't book on NWA this trip....)

Apropos of our 2006 Destination discussion, I just noticed these on the MINI USA site:

(Did I find something everybody else already knew? -- that always happens to me!)

A Canadian fellow named Dave Wilson emailed me about 2 weeks ago saying he was going to Hudson Bay in his Miata. He sent me these pictures from the trip:

This is a pic he sent me before he left. I think he said it was taken in Alaska/Canada area:

Tom Tollefson, also from Canada, did the trip last Easter. He sent me these pcitures:

Are we ready to go again?

It just doesn't have the same magic in the summer. Very blah. The Arctic Circle picture is cool, though. And I can't imagine doing the trip in that rickety old Jeep. That couldn't have been too comfortable.
