Bummer... I am horrible with names, and you aren't wearing your "Hello, my name is..." Tag

I am sorry. I know it began with a C, and, regardless of Cathleen, Catherine, Cathy, Cynthia or Constance, I like you anyway

Ya know Cathleen, I had this horrible thought...all the time I called you Cathleen, was it really Catherine? Because I suck with names. Whoooo, sigh of relief....

Not to worry, guys, my mother doesn't get it right either. She at least has the excuse of having 6 kids. I only have 1, and I don't get her name right some of the times. (It helps that she's been willing to answer to the dog's names over the years.)

Call me Ishmael. Just don't call me late for supper. Especially closer to the Arctic Circle.

I started to re-read that for the first time in ages last year...whoa, the prose was tough and I wasn't.

I've never read it. Isn't there a whale in it? I've read more arcane things, like practiacally all of Thomas Hardy, and Trollope. But no Melville.

Maybe we need some 'Books on Tape' for this trip?

I'm afraid the drone of a reader might put me to sleep, but this would be a Jack London sort of trip....trying to get back on topic...or at least closer to it. And, somehow, I fear that being an earlier participant in this thread will result in my ultimate participation in this chilling event....

Anybody ever read any Farley Mowat? (ie 'Never Cry Wolf', biologist, funny guy.) He's Canadian, has written a few books about the Arctic.

Ever read To Build a Fire ? Outrageous! If we fall through the ice and get all wet and try to start a fire and I look at MINI and it looks at me and telepathically says "No way Jay, you aren't cutting me open to get inside and stay warm", I won't read another book ever again

Not yet, and I'm glad I didn't have to grow up with his name! But, seriously, we may need a reading list to get in the right - I mean correct - frame of mind....

We won't...I did a fair amount of iceboating in NY/VT/NH ... on the shore of St James Bay we won't even know there is a shoreline - it will be just a bunch of snow - without fishing shacks...

Agreed, if we see any water, it had better be in a glass.

I remember where the water is, but everything should be WHITE

Winslow, can you calculate a point? I guess north of Montreal. However, I am sure people would want to hook up to get there with others.

We would need to coordinate the point with the calendar/clock!

11 Below, that is tee shirt weather in Maine. Anyway, yeah a good point would be on the NY ThruWay near Albany or in Albany itself. That way no one is lost and we have one point to start from. Getting lost in Northern Quebec would not be a plesant thing if you only speak english. You have I-90 and I-87 crossing each other, and if the group from down south comes up they can pick up I-87 from 81 North. How you get to 81 is up to you.

It is more fun if we go together as a team. Especially at the Boarder. I know I have problems entering in to Canada, I get hauled off every time. After 10 minutes I am cleared (hopefully now it is easier since I am not the Christopher Winslow they are looking for and have fixed it in their computer) and allowed on my way. This way we have our itinerary and where we are going mapped out and they can see that. With 5-10 of us it is easier for us than if we go alone, and that way we know if someone is stopped and deported at customs we can figure out why. Just make sure your car registration is up to date, your licence is not due to expire less than 6 months from the time your in Canada, and bring a valid passport (if you have one, makes getting into canada quicker). Also no plants, fire arms and smokes (stuff for you is ok). Also remember with Mad Cow in Western Canada, any meat you bring must be abandoned at the boarder (this goes both ways if I remember correctly), this includes cold cuts and lunch meats. (Can you tell I travel north of the boarder alot). French is not needed but it is good to learn a few things to say, and once you leave Montreal, English will be the Second Language, until you get to the Cree lands.

Coming back over to the US is just as fun as you have to prove to them you belong in the US. If you got a passport it shouldn't be a problem, and as long as the address on your car reg and licence match your good too.

That is all for now.

Why am I checking out Blizzaks in July?
And what's the deal with the recommended packing list for the February Eco-Tour of St James Bay...2 of the items are a short-sleeve shirt and shorts! That's got to be a challenge - even for the outhouse gang!
