Ah, care to share more info on this?

And does this mean when I return I should take the Tom Ridge Sucks bumper sticker off my car?

Last trip I didn't stop in Canada until north of Montreal. Most everyone north is bi-lingual. And as you go further north, one runs into less and less French.

Before we pick a meeting spot -- for some of us travelling from Boston area, I89 north to the border may make more sense. Of course, I'm just a maybe, and there may not be anyone from these parts going, but as participation shapes up it might be better to convene 2 groups south, then meet just south of the border. Maybe around Champlain (the town, not the lake).

Yes, excellent point. Forgive me for not thinking in those terms.

It would seem then the best plan would be to have an 'official' meeting spot just south of the border. (The Liquor store?...) Or, wherever the northern most point of confluence is.

We can 'sub group' to get there.

Winslow, this seems the best solution to the problem of everyone going together. While I definately agree with you, it seem silly for me, for instance, to say to PIPE he can't drive with me to the meeting place. And, we can't ask people to drive south to meet up for a northern trip.

We also need to take into account milage. Grouping up far north reduces the size of the official trip.

If someone is coming from Georgia, they should be proud that it's a 47,000 mile round trip Seriously, I know Nannette suggested a miles for charity thing. So, we should have a way to recognize any miles driven.

Perhaps then, we can figure out a way to have the "Official Hudson Bay or Bust" trip, Cambridge contingent, Hudson Valley contingent, Mason-Dizon contingent, etc, each with their own 'milage'

We can still meet them on I-87, we take I-89 north and in Swanton Vermont, we get off and head for New York. We meet up with Route 2 and head across the north Lake area. Then in Rousses Point, we take Rt. 9 to I-87. Then we had up to the last Champlain exit where there are some Malls. I used to do this all the time, I know the route very well. Besides Rt.2 through the Lakes in Vermon is a very nice and twisty ride. Just got to watch for cops. Also even if we are coming from Boston, it is just a quick ride out the Mass Pike to Albany. Either way works.

As far as problems getting into Canada, it has to do with the fact that our crime computers info is linked with theirs. So they know if you were convicted of something and it was published in the court records, doesn't matter what State it happened they know about it. Well there was a Christopher Winslow they were looking for, that commited some crime (wouldn't tell me what) and they were going to arrest me and deport me. It wasn't until some of the info didn't match up they started not treating me like a criminal and let me in. They stampped my passport and signed it, they also updated their computers. I still have to go in but I am not accused of a crime I don't know about and didn't commit.

Yeah, yeah. I think we can Knight you an honoray member of the MINI Renegade Club.

On my HONEYMOON, of all places, the same thing happened to me. The ship is pulling into the harbor in Bermuda and I hear "David Rose, to the B deck, WITH your passport". I had a pony tail, dressed like I was not cruise material and generally didn't fit. I was standing there with all the misfits and trouble makers (a lot like Alices Restaurant, except there was no bench), shaking in the company. I walked in and one MEAN Bermudian (which I would have thought was an oxymoron) looked at me, cracked the smallest of smiles possible and said get lost.

And when we came back into the US from James Bay, the border guards all came out to look at our MINI

That works, when I get back from Germany next week, I will start to contact the various towns and cities up there. To see what there is to offer and get them familar with us. What are we going to call this, is it still going to be Hudson Bay or Bust II or should we come up with a cute sounding name.

That's funny!

Winslow, I gather you don't like Hudson Bay or Bust Run II?

Even though it is going to James Bay, I would strongly like something with Hudson Bay in the name.

Hudson Bay MINI Run, MINI Run to the Arctic, Far North, Jack London MINI Run, Call of the Wild MINI Run, Run to the Dog Sleds, Chisasabi Rally, Radisson Run, (both those are the towns at the end of the road) Run to the End of the Road, Run to the End of the Earth (I did mention this is THE northern most point in the east of a paved road that touches the southern portion of the continent, didn't I?). These are some free-form association names that might work in a title. We need to think about whether this is a MINI only event, now and in the future.

My run was the Hudson Valley to Hudson Bay or Bust.

Do we want this to be a 'run', ie, road drive, or a 'rally', ie, some form of coordinated driving on the way? Maybe along the James Bay Road (381 km) we can Rally it, ie, by km marker x get there in y hours and z minutes.

And whatever we call it, I have no problem making it II (2) if everyone is game since I did the run in '02. That would a) put us on par with MOT (curse you, Red Baron!) and b) make next years III (3) !!

Shall we have everyone (going or not) throw out a few more ideas, then would someone volunteer to coordinate a poll?

I'd vote for a name with Hudson Bay or Arctic in it. The time of year might also be appropriate; i.e. Midwinter Arctic Run. It could still be Hudson Valley to Hudson Bay if it officially started in Albany - and that's the only way it could really be a II (2). And, this should be a MINI only event (not that I'm elitist or anything). Hmmm, I'll keep thinking....
