Two Things

One - One thing about radios that might be worth checking. The FCC is not in charge in Canada. You might want to check beforehand to make sure they're ok.

Two- You can practice for your Canadian adventure on this site!

One - The Police Radios don't work up on the James Bay Rd., so they don't go there. I thiknk we'll be fine with our Motorola's.

Two - I've ice climbed, slept in -10 weather, driven this winter to 6F with the top down (still waiting for COLD!!!) but if you think I am unzipping my fly to writein the snow, well, let's just politely leave it at I don't think so.

Talking

Ok, so I'm off to buy a pair of Motarola radios at BestBuy. I don't want to miss any of the "colorful banter". Why did we plan this so far away? I am ready to leave today!!

FRS Radios are legal in Canada as of 2000, limited to channels 1-14. Privacy code use is allowed (I saw that elsewhere).

http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/inter.../sf02118e.html

There is a proposal to allow higher power GMRS radios but that is still pending.

(I'm a GMRS license holder --- in a past life I used to petition the FCC for permission to do wacky stuff)

AH! A most EXCELLENT idea, fellas. I shall toss some clubs into the boot and bring fluorescent-colored range balls! We shall all swig and swing, and swig some more!
I believe we should also "plant" a pin with a flag of our logo into the ground marking our achievement. I shall scout for a pin.

Maxamini, will you take the Cessna and meet us at the turn? Join us for the back 9!

My info has Maxie flying in from Newfoundland to greet us at Radisson. He thought, at first, Chez Tony's would be fun but.......thought he'd miss the Happy Hour.

I too am finding myself getting more than a little wound up about this one. When can I start making piles of stuff in the LR?

What is it about this trip?

1) you either 'get it', like us, or, you don't, like the rest of the world who thinks we're nuts.

2) have you noticed more and more board posts and emails between us and conversations with friends and people at work etc include a little line about how the anxiety level is moving up a notch as each day rolls closer? Is there anyone who's going who, on the 17th, is going to say to themselves 'drat, gotta go to HB tomorrow'. Or, like me, are they tearing each page off the calendar, thinking, 'one dayless, one day closer'

2a) not to, ah, brag, and I haven't been following the thread, but is the Cape run that day generating as much buzz? No, not who will have a better beer buzz at the end of the 18th, the Cape or the Bay, but who is REALLY pumped and excited?

Yeah, I'm pumped too. But hell, I started getting my clothes ready for this last August.

Another idea for activities in Radisson

Last night the Boston Chapter of the BMWCCA sent out a reminder that ice racing season starts soon. That has me thinking, after the 18 holes of golf, what about a little ice slalom competition? With a supply of 30 or so orange cones (saw some in the toy aisle at WalMart a while back) we'd be all set. Anyone else interested?

We'd just need to find a suitable ice patch somewhere along the way. I wonder if that is possible. Oh wait a minute, the entire surface of Hudson Bay is iced out right now....

And, if I know the slimy bottomdwelling barnacled Cod, attempts at cell conversation between the weenies in Plymouth and we hearties will take place. Anybody with a satellite phone?

DR,

So.....who's going? Is there a post with up-to-date list? Sorry, I'm frazzled this month.

Will do. Actually, I'm working on another novel, err, email. We need to pick 'activities'

Probably go the first of the week.

Tomorrow, 4 weeks and counting.

Joe, I'm just as pumped. As if MINI didn't make me 1 dimensional before

...

Well, some would consider the Cape area "lower civilization." Where we are going, we're leaving all that far behind!

Fleece vest order

I've finally sorted out the design of the fleece vest. Black with a red version of the official MINI Arctic Run logo on the left front chest area. If you are interested in the group purchase please send me a PM before Sunday, as the order must be placed next week to arrive on time. Price will be about $35. Available sizes are S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL

I am still trying to source these from Land's End (they sure are difficult to deal with!), but may have to go with a local vendor.
