Great post to read by the World of Worldcraft forum member who dropped his ipod in an airplane toilet, and was the cause of one of the many air security emergency landings last week: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...pageNo=1&sid=1

My son just bought one of the new towers (I think he talked work into the 2.6G) - Sez it screams :-) “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” - Alexis de Tocqueville Eric the Red

Yeah, I'm hoping Father Christmas brings me on of those, but the boss says we have to renovate the study before we can buy a new desktop machine. The Cube is still doing OK, and the iMac (Luxo Jr style) will go to the kitchen... Of course, there's the new Rebel XTi that just made my Christmas list too, so I don't know how Santa will carry it all..! ![]() Do any of the other geeks read roughlydrafted.com..? The guy who writes that pointed out something I hadn't thought of. Each MacOS release makes old hardware run a bit faster (up to the point where it drops off the supported list). I'm running 10.4.7 on a 1.2GHz PowerPC G4 in this Cube (yes, I upgraded it) and it does pretty well. Of course, it's hard to compare with Windows, because Microsoft haven't got a major update to the OS out of the door in the last x years..! ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. If it's yours it's very friendly and comforting, but it scares the heck out of everyone else.

Yesterday I was fortunate to have both a MacPro and a Dell 690 in front of me. I was wrong in comparing the MacPro to the 490. It is really a 690. The motherboard are nearly identical. Rear top power supply, 4 SATA drive slots, same memory on risers, same chips and heatsinks, etc etc. You can tell when both companies "worked with" intel to design the new machines, there was a lot of copy and pasting going on. Of course, with the mac running $1000 cheaper than the 490, imagine what it is next to the 690! And yes I discovered roughlydrafted last week, he's got some good stuff on there. That point is something I've been saying for years and has never been absorbed by the other side.

Crossover has been released in beta...which allows you to run windows apps on your intel mac without booting windows in any way, it "bottles" them into a self-contained mac app. http://www.codeweavers.com/beta/cxmac/download/

It runs Windows apps without you having to buy Windows... how does it do that then..? I would think that it would fall foul of some sort of Microsoft copyright... ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. If it's yours it's very friendly and comforting, but it scares the heck out of everyone else.
