| Anyone else see the latest Diebold voting machine hacks..? They put a seal on a bolt that covers the memory card slot, but you can take out 5 other screws and take the whole lid off and get to the memory card that way..! 4 min to open, swap memory cards and put it back together..! Not only that, but some voting districts think that sending these voting machines home with officials the night before elections is perfectly secure. | That is freakin' scary! That's as good as the giant electonic gate at an airport I go into that is covered in barb wire across the top and has an electronic card reader to gain admittance through the gate. Or you could just walk (or drive) around it - The gate only covers the width of the road with no other fencing. Maybe Diebold designed this too “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” - Alexis de Tocqueville Eric the Red |

| Anything beats the whole hanging chad thing. I didn't really understand it, really you can't even fathom how stupid it is, till I moved to illinois and had to use the wonderful punch-card voting system. It took large amounts of both mental and physical skill to properly puynch the card with your votes. |

| What's wrong with the good ol' fashioned mark-an-X-next-to-the-name-you-like method? Simple, no equipment needed (except a pencil sharpener), and there's a record of every vote. ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. | Ahmen, Gav! Our city still does things that way. However, I feel increasingly challenged by trying to keep the marks within the box! I seem to be more Presbyopic, even though I was raised as an Episcopalian... | Well...today I have to drive to Salem to visit the genius bar. There is something seriously wrong with my laptop. There have been a couple of times when I have completely shut down the computer and put it away. When I take it out to use it it will not turn on. I have to completely charge the battery (or charge it a little to get it to power on) and this is with ~2 hours left to go. Yesterday I posted an entry to my blog and shut it down. Waited for the screen to go black, put it in the case. Went to take it out to do some web surfing and noticed the temperature was very high. There was a funny whining sound coming from the machine (can only deduce that the compressor fan was running really high) and it wouldn't turn on. I thought it was going to catch on fire. I took the battery off but the battery wasn't hot it was just the guts. Then my airport card wouldn't read my airport base. I thought it was totally fried. I called apple support and they had me reset my power something or other (removed the battery and pressed the power button for 5 seconds) and move closer to the airport station (even though I used the airport from that same room only hours before. The airport card finally caught and signal and she said o.k. have a nice day. I said wait there's a larger picture here my computer's processor shouldn't be running after it gets shut off. Her helpful reply, "Well it's working now." I hate that! So I'm taking it in to see if they can do anything. This doesn't seem to be a normal thing. or does it? ![]() "Buy you a soda after the game?" |
