When I got set up with them in September, they *did* have a Mac version of their craptastic software, but it required IE5 and just plain didn't work. What a fracking mess.

interesting...like I said above, I've been using the same router on Comcast for the same five years with no problems. Can plug anything in and out of it with no problem. I actually did move to a new place two years ago. When that happened, the install guy who reactivated me definitely saw my router, but then again, he really had no idea how the computer side of it worked anyways. I've never tried plugging directly into the wall to see what would happen. I guess I should be very afraid if my router ever dies. That might push me to go DSL with SNET/SBC/whatever the hell it is now, or is that just as bad?

Don't compute and poop! ![]() http://orbicule.com/undercover/recovery.html Frankly, I wouldn't want that computer back...

Before cable was available at my parents house, we had DSL (dad worked for SNET for 25 years - we had the major utilities covered ) I thought we had more problems with that than with cable. It was always disconnecting, and definitely slower. But the price of that compared to Comcast's rip-off makes me think about it. But I don't have a land line, so I'm not sure how that would affect the bottom line for me. On the laptop I mooch off the people above me, but I don't know how long their lease is for; I don't want to cancel my internet and get stuck with nothing. And yes, I'm aware that's not entirely "legal", but if you can't be savvy enough to encrypt your wifi, then you deserve to have random people using it.

I mooched off some random person near my house for the first few days until Comcast arrived. I set up one of my wireless routers to act as a repeater, so I had plenty of signal strength in the house, even though the signal I was leeching from was fairly weak. Why am I paying for 'net access, again?
