Yeah, you can right-click on the iPod in the sources list and choose "Sync" from there. If you've got it set up to sync *all* songs and playlists, it should do exactly that. Dragging songs/playlists to the iPod without the manual "sync" option checked won't do anything.

Is your iPod showing up in the menu on the left hand side? If not then iTunes isn't connecting to it.

If the iPod does appear there, right click on it and select the "update" option. And then be patient for the iPod to update.

That's what's annoying - it is syncing podcasts ... maybe I should "wipe" the iPod and then see if it syncs everything again

Did you update iTunes recently..? I'm not saying you should - just asking. There are some issues between certain generations of iPods and certain versions of the newest iTunes. The problem is that it tends to force you to upgrade to use the latest features or iTunes purchases, but they didn't do a good job of getting the bugs knocked out of this release. Having said that, I've had no problems with a 4th gen full size iPod and a 1st gen Nano on Macs or PCs, yet Jane has had some problems with her 5th gen iPod and only uses it on Macs...

What gen is it you're having problems with..?

There's always the zune if it doesn't work out... After all, it's so much easier to use than the iPod (according to Microsoft anyway link to internal ad

5th gen iPod ... iTunes updated the iPod last night; iTunes itself is at 7.0.2 (says it's current)

OK, I'm getting confused. When you say iTunes updated the iPod, do you mean it put new firmware on it last night, or that everything sync'd OK last night..?
If it put on new firmware and now you're having problems, I'd blame that. See if there's any help on the Apple support site or search the web on how to roll back to the previous version.

Well, I just turned off auto sync, and iTunes wiped the iPod completely. Then I turned on auto sync again and iTunes is currently copying everything on to the iPod again - and this time it lists the new playlist in iPod, suggesting it will work ...

And yes Gavin, it did a firmware update last night - but it's been wanting to for a week or two; I waited so that others might find issues and they'd fix them. No idea if it's that firmware or something else ... there's also the fact that this PC is newish and maybe I haven't updated the music library since I got the new PC.
Perhaps it updates the podcasts OK but not the music because it thinks it "belongs" to a different computer?

Maybe... If you've got it syncing with this one now, that could have been the problem.

This happened with my 5th gen iPod. The playlist would show up under the iPod when it was connected to the computer but once disconnected it wouldn't show up. Happened to be going to pick my MacBook up from the Apple store. He just restored it and it was all better. Seems to be a bit of a glitch.

Is it a smart playlist? No, that should still work too.
I never had sync all on because, well my music library has always been larger than the largest ipod and I never need to carry it all around. If you turn that off, you should be able to drag playlists to the ipod.

PTOOEY!

Just had to spit out all that cat hair after being in the OT & Banter thread!

Those of you with TomTom products should be alerted to a large mapping update announced by TomTom yesterday. I think this is the first commercial product to acquire benefit from Tele Atlas and its acquisition of GDT. There are free mapping updates if you qualify.

More HERE.

It will be interesting to follow the reports from US folks who upgrade.

Anyone here planning to upgrade?

I just ordered the upgrade for my 700. It comes on DVD and will take 3-4 weeks to get here USPS for $6 and another $2 for tax. They primarily take paypal and check to see if you have a paypal acct and make you use it. I like the 700 but this payment procedure is terrible.
