Go to CamBags which is a great resource. People post pics of their camera bags configured with their personal kits, so you can get a better sense of what a bag will carry, versus trying to decipher the manufacturer's dimensions and determining whether it will accommodate what you're looking for. You can search by camera model, bag type, etc.

Another helpful resource is this Nikonians "What bag do I need"

And Thom Hagan just posted his own recommendations.

Me, I have a LowePro CompuTrekker AW so I can carry my laptop and kit when I'm traveling. I am going to get a Mini Trekker AW for schlepping around town, I basically use my shoulder bag for storage.

At my daughter's last game a guy was there w/ strobes for lighting, and a chest and waist pack....I said that's next year and my wife & kids threatened to not let me in the gym to take pics...

Picked up one of these today for the remote release for my Rebel XT.

I tested it, it works, and it means Josh can do away with the self-time for those high and mighty angles he likes with his tripod. Seven bucks, while still ridiculously more expensive than it should be, is a lot better than the 35 that Canon wants for theirs. Good luck getting the yahoos at Radio Shack to cough one up, though. I had to go into the one in Nashua armed with the SKU (43-2003) to get them to find it.

Playing again with the suction cup mount. Man, I sure wish it was warmer than 19º this morning... The remote release extension was essential to taking these.

Didn't know MINI2 had one of those. I did post it over on NAM; I do most of my non-regional chatting over there.

Thanks for the link, Gav. And thanks for the kudos, Ian! You're welcome to borrow that mount if you'd like. You'll need a fairly long extension for the remote release, however. I'd like to try some shots while autocrossing this summer (I don't think that mount would fly on the track. Or perhaps it literally *would* fly, which would be a problem!) I like seeing the angle of attack of the wheel. Someone would have to ride shotgun and trigger the camera, though.

What a nightmare with Fios last week: After my cable box had repeatedly got stuck on "hunt" and needed the power pulled out each time, I called on monday and they scheduled a wed morning appointment to swap for a new HDDVR box, and the plan was to leave it out on the porch so they could literally swap it and I could go to work. They never swapped it, so I called back and it was rescheduled for thursday. Repeat again. And again for friday! 3 blown appointments. I'm usually very nice and understanding when dealing with phone people especially when they are not the source of the problem, but I was not on friday night. Saturday someone finally showed up and while talking with him he said there is no way they could just swap the box, it needs to be online so they can send commands to activate it. I had 3 different people on the phone who had no issue with it. And no phone call by whoever was blocking it. Just imagine if I had taken the whole day off of work each time.
In the meantime, I still have had to rely on my satellite service:

...but all I seem to get is Animal Planet.

I think I glazed over that post in that flood, but assumed the page was updated, not the code...

Nope, the code's been updated, too. It should be more reliable, now, but getting the static URL isn't as straightforward as I'd like. The old "static.flickr.com" hostname still works, however, so I just strip out "farm.". Can't figure out why they do it like that...

Hardware junkies?

Hey folks... so last night, I realized that I completely burnt out my A7n8x-e motherboard a couple of weeks ago via a dust bunny incident, and I'm looking for a replacement. The processor is still fairly decent (Athlon Barton Core 2.1Ghz), but I can't find a worthwhile replacement for the board, so I might just swap out the entire cpu/mobo set.

I'm an AMD guy at heart, and would love to stick with them. I've also always been a fan of Asus and Tyan motherboards. Between new sticks of memory (I would like to go to DDR2), and possibly a new video card (AGP-->PCI-X), I'm aiming to spend about $300-400 for the cpu/mobo combo.

Suggestions?
