Perhaps a wildlife photographer might feel otherwise.

A whole new meaning of "birdman"!
And half the lens wasn't camo'ed; nor was the camera body or tripod, presumably!
What's more, in that picture above I can clearly see the wooden platform

Ha!

Just found a review summary of fast telezooms: Fast Telezoom Lens Reviews

It's interesting that the Canon 70-200mm ƒ/4L with IS ranks lower than the one without IS.

That's actually a review of the IS version.

I ordered Leopard last night using my iPhone rebate. Total price after rebate: $7.10. My company has an employee purchase thingy with Apple, so the pre-rebate price was $107.10 (tricky maths, I know). Savings of $22 ain't to shabby. Almost as cheap as Amazon! (Ok, about $1.90 less, actually).

I still want to get a 24" iMac, but I'm going to wait until the new year, I think. Maybe. Apple (finally) released a fix for the freezes people were getting with the 20" and 24" Aluminum iMacs. 'Bout damn time...

Did you know that Apple's spell-checker doesn't recognize "aluminium"? I wonder if it would if my locale weren't for the US? Do you ex-pat Brits pronounce it "aluminum" or "aluminium"? Yeah, I've been watching too much Top Gear lately.

Yes, but in the woods, you'd expect to see wood... Or at least birds would.

Theo, you've only had an SLR for a few weeks and already you've got that much gear to get rid of..??!!

I've got the 70-300 IS and I like it. The first 6 in this gallery were taken with it and I think all were hand held. At most they had the benefit of a monopod.

Brian,

In a perusal of Photography Monthly (a UK publication) on the web, it appears they rate their lenses in four categories:

* Handling: XX/25
* Features: XX/25
* Performance: XX/25
* Value for money: XX/25

* Final score: XX/100

Other reviews indicate the the f/4 IS has the same or better IQ (especially at longer focal lengths) as the straight f/4. So, I'm guessing that the lower rating may be due to a lower score in the "Value for money" category. The f/4 IS is, of course, about double the cost of the non-IS version.

Again, guessing here, but it seems plausible.

I smell a hot-off-the-truck fire sale! Is the warranty 30 feet or 30 seconds?

True, but I bet its extra padding might just make the difference when the camera takes a spill!
