| I did get one Gavin ... maybe 10 minutes in the store. Of course, right after heading off to MINIsOnTop and having close to zero service the weekend, was annoying to say the least ![]() But yes, it's FAST! |

| I saw an interesting observation from John "Daring Fireball" Gruber the other day which tied in with someone else's theorizing on why Apple wouldn't make a netbook. It used to be that your laptop was a secondary computer to your main desktop computer. Now, it's increasingly the case that your smartphone (particularly iPhone users it seems) is the secondary computer and your main computer is now a laptop. The fact that Apple classes everyone as OS X users whether they use it on a desktop, laptop or phone suggests that this trend will continue.... I also saw a survey that said that a high percentage of netbook owners were very disappointed and would not buy another. Seems that manufacturers like to over-sell the capabilities and people don't really realize what the compromises are they're making to get a $300 computer... ![]() Religion is like a huge dog. If it's yours it's very friendly and comforting, but it scares the heck out of everyone else. |

| Exactly! We spent a bit of time this spring seeding a few HP (or Lenovo?) netbooks to faculty who are early adopters. The reaction was pretty similar: "great for surfing the web, but slow to run Office apps." So, we have changed direction a bit and have stuck with laptops. However, in the classroom we are moving to "thin-tops" (running served apps) and they seem a promising solution for local computing. Even with the cost of an app server, we can populate the campus for 1/3 the cost of laptops. | Just saw a post on MacRumors about the iPhone 3.1 OS update contents. MMS enabled (but not yet supported by AT&T), non-destructive video editing (why not just use Final Cut), and other stuff: Linky "The problem with using quotes from internet sources is that you can never be sure they are authentic." - Abraham Lincoln |
