Ever hear of the Blue Man Group? They play tubes fashioned from PVC pipe. They vary the pitch by sliding their hand along the length of the tube. http://www.blueman.com/videoimages/v...ellove_h.shtml

I'll come over and record my piece. You run tape and we play the result over some kickass system in someone's MINI. Who's was it on MOT? M2Smith can get external speakers or bring the set I mailed you. They'll hook up to any sound card. I'll get my man from Jamacia to put me in touch with a steel drum group localy. I'll get their track. Can you overdub?

Yup. Been to see it. Great show. But I can tell you they weren't card board tubes, toilet paper rolls or applicators. Jared, get that drum dusted off. Make it fit in the MINI. Put the back seats down. Take the back seats out. Make the drums fit. Missing my buddies Dan, Ed, and Diane but glad I have three angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs

Max has an idea. The limitting factor is X numbers of MINIs right. Rules as stated say no limot on number of passengers. Reserve the MINI space for bodies. Invite all your friends who never 'Get It" when you describe how you spent your weekend. I'm bringing neices and nephews. Here's the deal. I'll make a prerun in a van and deliver whatever equipment you want on site when you arrive. I'll get my people to construct a wooden platform=, small stage where we can do Lord of the Dance type percussion. Wham on that sucker with a bunch of old six irons and other assorted golf clubs. The kids can squash soda cans on their heels and dance around. At the end off the night we'll burn the stage.

M says to lay all the guys down in a row, expose our various sized abdomens and "play da timpani". Also mass pink belly time. I said that she beats on me daily and so I am the best tempered kettle drum. Judy said I could bring Scooter.....hmmmmm Drums 'n' Howling. Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear.

| If I am not mistaken, they (the BMG publicists) have named those instruments "drumbones". There are two types of drumbones: the multi-tube type and the single-tube slide type. The multi-tube type creates different "notes" by drumming tubes of different lengths (a la pipe organ). The single-tube type creates different notes by a "slide" (a la trombone) that dynamically changes the length. Hence, "drumbone". Ok, too much information. BTW -- we saw their show in Vegas and it was really neat! I think that they do performances in NYC on the east side near Greenwich. It's worth the price of admission IMHO. Hang around after the show; they usually appear in the crowd and "sign" your Playbill by making a blue fingerprint on the cover. Great for the kids! Theo (What? This isn't OT & Banter? Nevermind!) | Theo, In case you did not know, we have Blue Man Group in Boston! I have seen the show there about 5 times, and seen it in Las Vegas once. The Vegas show is of course more spectacular, but I think the cosy atmosphere of the Charles Playhouse is nicer. One time in Boston, Margaret & I were on the front row - buried at the end of the show! Another time, with my Dad, we sat to the side under the upper seats - thus not involved in the paper at all, but very neat to be sitting to the side and watching it unfurl over the audience in front of us ![]() A great show; hard to define but an essential watch! I have the two CDs too - the first is excellent; the second is good. |
