BURNING MINIs- May 14, 2005 fire!fire!bacchanalia! *2 slots still open!

Provencher and Barnatt Productions presents

Burning MINIs

Saturday May 14, 2005

The MINI Spring Event of the year! Burning MINIs is the event where you can let it all hang out! You’ve heard of the Burning Man festival held in Nevada each year? Well, this is our scaled down version. Mad MINI owners celebrate Spring, with auto rally, drum circle, bonfire, music, games, food, and drink.

Judy and Tony Provencher are providing their farm for this event. Judy has been working hard on details and here is what’s happening so far:

What: Burning MINIs Rally and Bonfire. Saturday morning rally out to Plum Island with lunch. Evening outdoor dinner with chili cook off and bring your own dinner fixings. There will be 5 or 6 grills set up for making your dinner. There will be activities and good conversation. In the event of rain we can move into the 60 x 96 riding arena to eat and chill. Two portable toilets will be on site. There will be a $5 required donation to color the cost of portables and charcoal for the grills. If we are short you may be asked to pony up an extra buck or two.

When: A. Saturday May 14, 2005 10:30 am rally start time. Arrival begins at 9:30 a.m. Rally packets distributed when you check in. Rally ends around 1-1:30 p.m.

B. Free time until 3:30 to 4:00 p.m.

C. Back to the farm by 4 p.m for cocktails and begin cooking dinner.

D. 4 p.m. to sunset: Dinner, fun and games.

E. Sunset until 11 p.m. or so: Bonfire is sparked at the stroke of sunset, drumming circle begins and general bacchanalia commences. 10:00 p.m. begins decibel limit of “dull roar”.

F. Sunday breakfast? We can make arrangements as things develop if anyone wants to get together at a local restaurant for Sunday breakfast.

G. Volunteers make a quick sweep of the area to help clean up.

Where: Judy and Tony Provencher’s 188 Lake Street, Haverhill, Ma

How many MINIs? This event is limited to 30 MINIs. It doesn’t matter if there is one person or four in your car. The limit is 30 MINIs. Seven spots are already taken, leaving 23 open slots.

Who do I contact? Please post your interest here AND email Judy ltlzig188@yahoo.com with your details as follows:

Your Name

Car's name

Number of people attending

Number of pets

Will you be camping at the farm?

Camping you say? Yes, camping is available at the farm. If you are hearty enough to camp you can set up your tent. No showers but there will be a hose to wash your face and brush your teeth and portable toilets. Can I camp there Friday night too? The property will open for early arrivals at 6:00pm on Friday. Friday is pizza night for anyone who is there. You absolutely positively have to let Judy know if you will be camping and if you will be arriving Friday evening. Sunday check out time for campers is 11 a.m.

Lodging Information: Saner individuals are directed to local motels that are mere minutes away. Best Western Merrimack Valley www.bestwestern.com, or Comfort Suites Haverhill (978)374-7755, both located off exit 49 on route 495.

What should I bring to Burning MINIs?

Rain gear and warm clothing. Just in case.

Drum. If you have a drum please bring it. This will be an integral part of Burning MINIs. Tamborines, ankle bells, cow bells, any type of percussion device……… I’m bringing a 4’ tall conga drum on a stand. All types are encouraged.

Food. The evening meal will be cooked onsite. Bring your own burgers, dogs, chicken, brats, cod fish cakes, condiments, etc. There is a super market about 5 minutes away for your convenience.

Chili: If you would like to bring along a pot of chili, or make a pot onsite on a grill please let Judy know in advance. If it’s spicy enough it won’t go bad if it sits for a few hours!

Drink: BYOB. All alcoholic beverages are to be consumed prudently. Anyone who abuses this policy and acts stupidly will be given the black spot, branded, burned at the stake, keel hauled and otherwise dealt with. There is a package store about 5 minutes away for your convenience.

Costumes: Go for it! Dancing around the bon fire in drag, giant lobster outfits, loin cloth and head gear is acceptable and encouraged. Decorating your MINI is highly encouraged. Light sticks, glow in the dark paints……….get creative.

Attitude: Good attitudes only allowed. Be ready to dance and howl at the moon.

Please contact Judy ASAP if you will be attending. Mark your calendars and make your plans.

-Steve

Oh ... I just don't know ... does not sound like a very British thing to do ... but then it does sound like fun ... and it is so far into the future I could always just baker it later ... Big Bonfires are good though

Better than bakering it later is selling your spot!

Steve, who were the 7 already signed up?

I'll put it on the offical NE MINI event calendar if that's OK (I'm sure no-one really looks at it anyway)
I'll sign up too. Like Ian says, not very British, but the pyromaniac in me wants to go
Actually, a friend of ours who has been to Burning Man (twice) told Jane and I we shouldn't go because we "wouldn't get it". We pointed out to him that we've been to the Glastonbury Festival which is similar only colder, wetter and with more mud..!

edit:
Definition of bachanalia (one 'n' BTW, Steve) from Dictionary.com
Quote:
This is not at all to suggest that the Revolution was a sort of non-stop bacchanalia, but that partial drunkenness was often an important component in a certain type of revolutionary excitability, particularly in meetings or committees.
--Richard Cobb, The French and Their Revolution

Sounds like any other MINI event..!

Ian, you will fit right in wearing your MINI p.j.'s. Time to buy those MINI slippers.
Gavin, Is it PANTO time? Right you are, it should be one "n" . Oh, and BTW, it's two letter "c".
