Bar Harbor Invasion - June 16th -18th, 2005

Last year's beer bash and munchies at the gazebo was fun. Are you guys planning on it again?
I think I'll do cocktails at the MOTOR (MINIs On Top Operations Room) at the TandC.
A little more sophisticated this year.

And his idea of sophisticated cocktails is:

beer in a bottle not a can. no glass, please.
big scoop Fritos, not the regular size.
any dip other than onion which, of course, is soooo common
for cocktail napkins, Brawny paper towels rather than his sleeve.
mixed drinks = more than one brand of brewski eg Pabst plus Old Milwaukee

Benjamin and I took a test run down east. We started in the LLBean factory Outlet parking lot. We soon passed the M.A.M.A animal clinic.
We followed Rt 1 down east (north), diverting down to the scoodic park on Rt 186, a great drive and great sight, the park is one way and fun to drive in the winter, I dont kn ow how busy the road will be in the summer. We passed the MAMAS restuarant on the way down.
Further up Rt1, we followed Rt 187 down to Jonesport and over on to Beals Island.
Even further up Rt1 we followed Rt 191 down to cutler.
That lead to Rt 189 to Lubec and Campobello island, Canada. We skipped West Quoddy Head because it got dark.
The trip up took us 5 hours, I have all the times and distances and hope to compile them soon. The full run would be too much for a day trip.
A run to Scoodic Point would make a great feeder to the Bar Harbor Invasion, either on thursday or the weekend before.
Keep up the banter on your intentions to visit Maine this summer
The run from Maine to NH last year was the most fun I have had in my 36,000 miles of Mini driving.

I'm hurt<<sniff, sniff>> that you think I would not make it up to the MOT this year......

this time I have made reservations @T&C. Just looking for an inexpensive Bar Harbor place to sleep for me & my nephew.

I plan to get up to Bar Harbor late Wednesday, and motor around that part of Maine for two days. Do the above mentioned drive. Do the MOT thingie and then tool around NH, VT, & NY on Sunday and Monday.....

and on that note, I have not made any reservations for this years Dragon run. Needed a change. The distance between home and the Dragon, ~600 miles and between home and Bar Harbor, ~725. not much difference.....

well i'm off to the post office to mail my check in......

nothing official as of yet... I think many were planning on making sure they were heading to NH first... And with the Fri PM festivities in NH I know a lot of people are planning on heading right there. I'll go back through all I've got and post a list... If the others in charge of this event know of add'l attendees - just let me know!!!

Now that I am in for MoT I will call and reserve for The wonderview... my offer still stands for anyone needing a bed as they head north early in the week or even the weekend before for a night or 2 if they want to explore the mid coast area

sorry - pneumonia & bronchitis put me out of commission for a bit... I have an event on the 9th of April - after which I can focus more on this one... sorry!!

Just letting you know we reserved a room a few weeks ago, so we'll be up for the festivities on Thursday and Friday nights! I'm really looking foward to being sleeping and freezing my butt off on the top of Cadillac Mt. for the 2'nd year in a row.

I made my reservations at the Wonderview too. You are going to have to stand in line to freeze your buns off on Cadillac this year.

For those that have mentioned a trip to Maine and Nova Scotia, (shameless plug) my daughter runs a B&B in Lawrence Town on Marine Drive just north of Halifax. the house was trashed by Hurricane Juan 2 years ago and will be reopening soon. Check it out.
