Good Garage to install a 15% pulley

Any advice on the best place to install a 15% pulley I received for Christmas? And any idea how much it might cost to install?

you could go to YarrowSport in RI, it's a bit of a drive for you, but not nearly as bad as going to Helix.

Also, with the proper tools it's only about a 2.5 - 3hr job, DIY

Turner Motorsports is close to you then.

Doing it yourself may be more like 4+ hours if it's the firts time you've done it. You also need the correct puller and belt de-tensioner tool. It's not a real hard job at all, but you need a space to do it out of the weather this time of year.

Post if you end up going to either Yarrow or Turner as maybe some of us could pull a quick get-together.

Wow, can't believe I forgot about Turner. that's a boatload closer than Yarrow, plus they are all BMW / MINI.

I'd probably be up for a little get together, if and when there is one

I will keep you all posted on the where/when I decide to put it in. Are there any ill effects to putting in the pulley - or is it just a better pulley than the stock?

It's 15% lighter and therefore easier to spin than the stock.

Ummmm. not true.
It's 15% SMALLER so it makes the supercharger spin faster. It's about the same size as the one they put on if you do the JCW upgrade from Mini. I have heard of no bad things with the 15% to date and there are hundreds if not surely thousands being used.

It's the best performance bolt on you can do for the MCS. You'll love it, so do it ASAP!!!

By the way, what make did you get? Makes a difference in instalation.

If it's smaller isn't it also lighter? But whatever - you win!

Altho the main purpose and name is to spin the supercharger 15% faster, you are both right. Aftermarket pullies are usually made out of aluminum or have more of the metal drilled out of them to make them weigh less. Of course the supercharger is now 15% harder for the engine to spin, but the less mass to spin in the pulley does help a little bit. This applies more to crank pulleys, which on some cars can weigh 10lbs stock and be replaced with a 2lb pulley.

Actually most aftermarket blower pulleys are heavier then stock. I believe that the Alta, which is most widely used is about 5oz heavier then stock. Mini madness is the only one that I know of that is an aluminum pulley and that's about 5oz less then stock.
Altas are steel. (stainless)

The spin, I would think, would not be affected too much by different masses because the axial load would be the same from the belt. Maybe it would change it a bit, but I would almost bet the load on it makes up for a good portion of that difference. If it was free standing such as a fan then that difference would be much greater.

I have a tech question though. I've recently come across a 12-volt fan that is just small enough to fit inside my intake. Anybody ever experimented with a self made intake blower?.. This fan is capable of forcing a great deal of air straight into the intake (we're not talking about a simple computer fan here). What I would like to do is throw a some sort of control to it that would keep the speed proportional to the RPM's and also have a blow-off valve set at a certain PSI to prevent too much air being forced in... Should I try it? (Wish I knew someone with a dyno and some free time to test this out)

Stop the world, I wanna get off!!!
