Just thought I'd let you know that last weekend I went on a little motoring trip while Carol and "The Gals" were shopping in Beantown.
Drove the route to Area 51 which, it turns out, is actually at Mile Marker 50.4. However, the exit from the rest area back onto I-93 goes by the Mile Marker 51 sign. So I guess it still qualifies as being named "Area 51".
At Area 51, I met up with
snek and we "spanked the Kanc" and Bear Notch Road to Bartlett. GREAT FUN!
Bear Notch Road opened recently and it is in fairly good shape. There are some areas where the pavement is quite uneven and just a couple of spots where the pavement is broken, but it seems to have faired well over the winter.
The Kanc was as I remember it from a month ago. There appears to be some road construction on the section after Bear Notch Road toward Conway. I know
rfinprc (our Saturday Loon Lot & Kanc Drive Potentate) has been continually bribing the NH Highway Department to scoot their Kanc project along. In any case, I can attest to the fact that the work is not being done on Saturdays; no sign of crews last month or this month on that day.
Route 302 and 16 from Bartlett to Gorham are in excellent shape. I was tempted to talk
snek into visiting Storyland but he wouldn't bite. I'm liking that Pumpkin House thingy!
Also stopped at Mr. Mike's Mobil to get rid of some recycled coffee and to pick up some soda. They are ready for us; guard dogs and barbed wire are soon to be delivered.
See you all in 25 days,
Theo
