Sunday, May 1st Watkins Glen International Racetrack Opening Day
Drive your Mini on the Watkins Glen track- 3 paced laps for $15, open to all drivers. Start time is 9 AM, though we may want to arrive a little early to get a good Mini corner of the parking lot!
Tickets may be purchased in advance by phone or through the Watkins Glen website (can be picked up on the day of the event). I’ll have 2 way radios on channel 7 subchannel 21 on for Mini meet location in the parking lot. Will also try to arrange for a lunch gathering follwing the event for anyone who cares to join in.

Post-track lap luch will be at Abigail's Restaurant 1978 Waterloo Seneca Falls Rd Waterloo, NY 13165 Phone: (315) 539-9300, gathering at 1 pm. This is on Route 5&20 right near the corner of 414, and near the Thruway Waterloo exit 41. I’m choosing this restaurant because it is far enough out of Watkins Glen to miss the crowds, is near the Thruway, and because my aunt planned & built this restaurant as part of the Seneca Manor Motel when I was a kid.

Did anyone go? How was it? I'm eagerly awaiting the Sahlen's six hour at the glen this June. Will anyone else be there? Look for a DS/B MCS with MA plates and say hi!

We had 9 Minis in our group, and saw at least 6 others while we were there. I'll let you know if I hear of anyone who is planning to go to the 6 hr race. There's also a Buffalo TSD rally on June 11th, and the Toronto Wonderland Italian Job Rollercoaster will be having a Mini event that day, so the competion is fierce for Mini attendance in these parts.

I'm working on planning a Mini get together the weekend of the Vintage Grand Prix Festival (9/9-11).

Yippee..... If you've never been, this is an absolutley great weekend. It's the largest vintage racing event in North America. Everthing from Allards to Minis, Can-Am cars and more. Edelbrock, Rahal, and all the other top vintage racing teams will be there. This year's featured marque is Alfa Romeo. You have unrestricted access to all the stands, paddock, garage, and the rest of the track for the price of a general admission. We've got our tickets and campsite at the State Park already.

We had the village course to ourselves last week, or at least the part from the stone bridge, over the tracks to the corner of Franklin St.- 4 Minis over the tracks!

Unfortunately it's going to be a busy weekend in the Mini world, I'll be in Buffalo at a WNY rally, the Toronto crowd will be a Wonderland for the opening of the Italian Job ride, orthEast Mini has a BBQ. I've heard from at least one Binghamton area Mini owner who will be there (Dark Silver, I think) and someone from PA asked about it on the NorthEast Mini board http://NEMINI.org

Wish we could make it but previous commitments prevail. We'll be there in September for the vintage races though.

are you going to do this again?... this is what I get for not reallly reading the other thread titles very often... there's just so MANY!... anyways, I would love to go drive 'round the ole track unless that was like a one-time thing or whatever...

MMM- I'm hoping to do this again in August on the weekend of the 20th/21st- it's paced laps, but we did a Minis only run last year that was a blast, also drove the vintage Grand Prix course throught town.

If I ever get weekend days off that I'm not out of town (like MOT...) I'll be doing track laps and lunch events, but that has been slow in coming (summer work schedule not planned out yet). I'll post details here though.

Also, the VIntage Grand Prix weekend is Sept 9-11- I'm not sure if they'll be doing track laps that weekend but it's possible. I think we'll have a few Miniacs there for that one!
