MOT 2005 Day Of Caravans

Those of us that are heading up to MinisOnTop saturday morning and would like to travel together can organize meeting times and places here.

Eastern Mass--93N: Meet at the rest area just north of the NH line. We will depart the lot at 7:00am sharp.

Northern Vermont:
Richmond park-and-ride at 7:40am
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury at 8:00am
Someplace in Montpelier at 8:20am

Any more recommendations for folks coming from other areas? I'll post it here.

-------------------

We have several heading up from the boston area so a location or two off 93 would be ideal. I'll leave this thread generalized though for others to come up with locations for other directions as well. I'll update this first post with meeting places as they are mentioned.

Set a location and a time of departure. That way people can join in, but if they are running a little late they don't hold up the group and may be able to catch up further up the road. They should be scheduled to arrive at Loon early enough to set up and participate in all loon events.

Please post and discuss your suggested locations and times in this thread.
------------------
How early should we be getting to loon?
I say aim for at least 9am. RC rally starts at 9:30. Does anyone think earlier?

What are suggested locations?
What is a good location off 93, north of 128 or maybe 495? Should we add a second location further up into NH to join with others?

Josh, I'm w/ ya, I'd like to be there 9ish -- makes sure we have a good parking spot since we'll have so many non-registrants

We'll see where the others come in but for me personally, as I'll probably be heading up 495 I'd suggest a spot north of the 495/93 interchange, perhaps in Andover/Lawrence? However, I'm flexible to come up 128 to 93N.

There's a hotel just off the interchange you take for the IRS headquarters (133?) that might be convenient.

What time should we think about leaving for Loon from say, this general vicinity (495/93) to make 9am?

I'll be heading over from Burlington, via Montpelier, Saturday morning... In case MGB Boy or boondox want to join me. Or any other mystery folks in the area. I haven't looked at the map recently to figure out the route.

Possible meet site...

Spoke w/ a buddy from up that way. The hotel I was thinking of (Ramada, used to be Sheraton Rolling Green) has been torn down.

He suggested the Chateau, at the River Road exit. It's in the NW corner (coming northbound it's across the hwy) but still affords easy on/off.

Caravan

I'm coming up from just south of Boston so anywhere on 128 or 93 north of the city suits me. I also want to get there for 9am as I will be competeing ferociously in the Mini RC race.

That could be good, right off the highway.
I forget how long..is it about 1.5 hrs from that point?
The other question is if there will be another meet up point further into nh, to also factor that time in.

Snid (and anyone else) it can be as simple as saying, you'll be in a certain parking lot at a certain time, if anyone wants to be there. Perhaps something brown for all the VTers.

And don't forget my mum, she of the black-eyed purple Cooper ragtop. She'll be on the expedition as well. Although her driving tends to be less "spirited", so perhaps she's not one to convoy with...

I'm coming from the south shore, north of the city sounds good. If people have 2 way radios what channel should we have it for the day? It's a lot easier to follow people that way.

Looking for others in the 95 north area (Mass, RI, NH, Maine) through NH over to 93 from Manchester that may want to hook up.

Just let me know.

The usual convention of the MINI runs around here calls for Ch 7 - no subchannel.

So..... Where are we meeting?

Any conclusions as to where (north of Boston) we may be meeting up and what time?

Right now the only suggestion I've seen is the chateau. Any other suggestions?
Who has a good estimate of time from there to loon?

OOh- I like being a mystery person! This mystery person did the whole thing as a day trip last year, lots of driving and paranoia of moose on the drive home on Route 2.

This year I have a hotel for Friday and Saturday, along with the scavenger hunt crew I am brining with me. We also hope to get a hike in on Sunday and take advantage of being in the Whites.

Looking forward to MOT! See you there.

I'd estimate about 2 hrs from the Chateau to Lincoln. That's without stops...if we're going to meet up w/ folks from VT, I'd say just north of the 89 and 93 interchange. But many from VT may go more "lateral" on the back roads rather than head down and then back up. Plus, those roads would be more fun.

So if it's the Chateau, seems we need to target leaving there at 7AM. Don't forget some will have to stop at the Info Center after getting off exit 32 to get our Nat'l Forest parking passes.

I'll pass this time. My scheduled delivery date was the third week in June, so I never signed up. By the time I realized Nugget was coming nearly a month early registration was closed and there were some rather insulting generalizations about non-registrants showing up that rubbed me the wrong way.

I'll just wait till next year and sign up in time. Pete
