Offline | It's on my list of things to sign up for! Gotta send in the registration for the SCCV, and the BMW-CCA. Since the ADSS the weekend before is full, they waived that as a requirement for the on-track stuff. Do I actually have enough money for wheels / tires and the fees for all this stuff? |

Offline | Since many of you have done this before... should I be at all concerned signing up without having done their ADSS before hand? I guess if it was really a problem, they wouldn't have waived the requirement. |

Offline | Have you ever done an autocross before? I would definitely do the school at some point, the skid pad work is fantastic. But to answer your question, I don't think you'll find it to be a problem. Have fun!! |

Offline | So far just one track weekend on a small track. There's an autocross near me in early July. I sent in my registration for BMW-CCA. I'll wait a little while to see if I get an email with my BMW-CCA member number so I can put it in the driving school registration and save some $'s. Right now, all I have is the application reference number. Wheels and tires will probably get ordered once I get home from work. |

| MINI2 Senior | Snid, Definatly sign up ASAP. You'll have an excelent time! Like Michele (HI Michele) said, the skid pad day is truly a good thing to experience, but going without it is not a problem (I think). I don't see that you really need tires and wheels right now. Many Minis are out there with their stock set up. Don't bother with special track stuff till you really have the $$ to do it. Better to spend it on more track days for this season. Hope to see ya there! |

Offline | I'm undecided on the tires. I put a ton of wear on my new tires last weekend with the Sport Car Club of Vermont at their track event. But that track is known for being really hard on tires. So, I'm actually looking at getting track wheels and tires as a long-term money saver. Perhaps I'll wait until a few more events have gone by... and if I'm still as excited about these things I'll get the wheels / tires before the September event at the track I was at last weekend. |

Offline | I agree with Greg to stay with your stock wheels and tires for the time being. I understand what you're saying about the additional set up being a long term money saver. And I agree that it would be if you're going to do this on a regular basis. But staying on street tires for a while will truly make you faster and help you learn more in the long run. Since you've already been on track, I wouldn't worry about your lack of having done the ADSS. But do it some time for the skid pad work. It's excellent! BTW, Boston's ADSS seems to be a bit cheaper than White Mountain's. |

Offline | Snid, Won't you be having a qualified mechanic do a tech inspectiion before taking your car out to the driving school ? I'd rely on their judgement as to whether the tires have enough tread left to handle a day. There is plenty of fun to be had on nearly worn out, but still safe enough, tires. (Well, as long as its not raining!) |

Offline | Oh, they've got plenty of tread, just less than they had a week ago. ![]() I guess I got thrown to one side of the argument last weekend (with the sports car club of Vermont) when everyone but the three newbies had dedicated track wheels / tires. I'm just trying to avoid having my road tires be done in prematurely. But, I've now decided to wait on getting another set of wheels and tires. Registration sent in this morning... awaiting the payment instructions (sounds like a hostage negotiation or something). |

Offline | These BMW folks have more rules than the sports car club of VT people. ![]() I've got a query out to the local guys on where to go for a helmet and someplace to do the tech inspection. What do you guys have as advice? Favorite helmet brand? How much should I expect to pay for a lid? How about the tech inspection / brake fluid change? Don't you hate newbie questions? ![]() There's an autocross up here in Vermont early in July, so I can always get more local info then if I haven't figured things out by then. |

| MINI2 Senior | Hey, I was a newbee this year also, but I'm now up to seven track days and will be hitting Lime Rock tomorrow for my fourth time there. You are asking the same questions that went through my mind also. I will PM you with some answers in a minute.... ![]() |

Offline | I'm payed up too! And I've got an autocross in early July. I'm going to need a calendar soon to keep track of all this stuff. It looks like there aren't any local shops to me that have helmets in stock, but there are places that can order them. I don't know that I'll have the opportunity to head south towards civilization to visit a shop that has them in stock. Anybody know of a shop that stocks helmets that's further north than HMS? Something in the White River Junction / West Lebanon area would be great, Concord / Manchester is still better than Boston area. |
