Offline | New Mass Mountie Trick--Beware on the Mass Pike On my way into Beantown this PM, on the Mass Pike, I spotted a hapless speeder pulled over by an unmarked mountie in a midnight blue late model ('03 or '04) Mustang. The crazy thing was that it had a big "For Sale" sign in the front windshield....and it didn't have the strobes going in front, it did have them in the rear. So beware the 'stangs....especially one for sale! And join the NMA! |

Offline | Re: Mass Mountie Trick The undercover Mustang is NOT a new thing, they've always had a few Mustangs ( that I've personally known about ) since the mid-80's. I even remember when the Pike Troopers had a small fleet of unmarked Lincoln MK VIII's. In reality, most of those ended up being used as personal commuter vehicled by the administrative elite, but sometimes I'd spot one on a late-night construction detail or on a state "revenue enhancement" mission. What's really new in their bag of dirty tricks is their use of Tahoes and Expeditions. Yes, I know they've had some of these for a while, but the new twist is that some have DEALER plates on them. The MSP also has a few Crown Vics and Grand Marquis running LIVERY plates. Most people wouldn't think twice about speeding past a common livery car or something bearing dealer plates, but that's what makes them so sneaky. The only clue you may have to their real identity is the extra dark tinted windows (to hide the strobe lights) and maybe an extra antenna or two. Nowadays, even their antennas are stealthy. Many are using a flat disk style that look like a hockey puck. |

Offline | No, I know, shoulda been clearer, the "new trick" (to me anyway) was the "For Sale" sign in the front window, making it appear more like a personal car. Hadn't seen/heard about the SUVs & LIVERY plates tho' last week Josh was relating how he got bagged on Rte. 2 by a mountie in a Ford Explorer...was under the impression that it was an off duty cop but now, doesn't seem the case; thanks for that heads up. |
