MAMA's Junkyard Ragtime Band

So, I'm thinkin' we should have an official MAMA band to play at some as-of-yet undetermined MAMA event...

Anybody play out there?

I play bass, been playin since I was 13.... let's do this already!

My personal hero and one of my biggest influences playing the bass... if you don't know Les Claypool you definately need to check out either Primus, Oysterhead or Les Claypool's Flying Frog Briggade or Les Clapool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (Les, Buckethead, Bernie Worrell and Brain on drums)

Stop the world, I wanna get off!!!

Our first song would HAVE to be..

"Amos Moses"

Amos Moses was a Cajun.
And lived by himself in the swamp
Hunting alligator for a living.
Knock 'em on the head with a stump
The Louisiana law's gonna get you, Amos
It ain't legal hunting alligator down in the swamp, boy

Now everybody blamed his old man
for raising him mean as a snake
When Amos Moses was a boy,
his Daddy would use him as alligator bait
Tie a rope around his waist,
throw him in the swamp
Alligator bait on the Louisiana bayou

Just about 45 minutes
southeast of Tipidow, Louisiana
There lived a man called Duck Bill Sam
and his pretty wife Hannah
They raised up a son that could
eat up his weight in groceries
Named him after a man of the cloth.
They called him Amos Moses

Now folks in South Louisiana
said Amos was a helluva man
He could trap the biggest, meanest alligator.
He only had to use one hand
That's all he got left
'cause the alligator bit him. Ha ha!
Left arm gone clean up to the elbow

Just about 45 minutes
southeast of Tipidow, Louisiana
There lived a man called Duck Bill Sam
and his pretty wife Hannah
They raised up a son that could
eat up his weight in groceries
Named him after a man of the cloth.
They called him Amos Moses

Here comes Amos
And you should have seen his pretty wife, Hannah

Well, the Sheriff got wind that
Amos was in the swamp hunting alligator skin
So he hid in the swamp, "I'm gonna get you boy."
He never did come out again.

Well, I wonder where the Louisiana Sheriff went to?
Sure can get lost in the Louisiana bayou (3X)

Well I used to play jazz trombone, pretty damn well too, but it's been nearly six years since I picked up the brass. Now I just play about four chords on guitar. I are special.

Sorry 3M

well dust off the old brass then, I haven't picked up my bass in about a year and a half, but it doesn't ever take me long to get back my "chops"... once you learn, you've got it, ya just gotta "tighten" up a bit, but you'll still be able to play, especially if you were good...

BTW.. is your Mini red witha white roof ? I may have seen you this AM in Milford/Amherst area on 101-A , I was heading out to Milford and saw a younger person heading the other way, tried waving , but they were a bit too into the "motoring" thing to take notice

If you play one at a time instead of all together, does it get any better?

Ah, my life in music....

Once, Mozart and I were out drinking and we met these 2...nevermind.
Played drums in HS with Bronx band, Sammy J and the Runalongs
Sang backup for the Stones on Sympathy for the Devil
Helped Ginger Baker design his drum setup with Cream
Carried Jerry Jeff Walker's guitar case
Think Victor Lamont Wooten is the finast bassist non-classical music has ever had
Doc Severinson once lived around the corner from me
Shook YoYo Ma's hand
Have an signed photo of Buckwheat Zydeco
Am desperately in love with Scarlett Lee Moore
Discussed relative merits of frozen french fries brands at Shaw's with Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson
Waved to Bela Fleck and he waved back

the list is endless...want more?
