I've just bought a 2006 Mini Cooper with 23000 miles on the clock and to my horror have now learnt about this possible steering box failure. |
I saw this elsewhere Of effected cars
175,000 Mini One, Mini Cooper and Cooper S cars sold between 2001 and 2005
9,000 convertibles and
32,000 Mini Hatch cars sold in 2006 and,
800 Mini Convertibles sold in 2007.
My question is, will my Cooper be effected??

Miss Miniii, |
Please right back with any update as so much useful detail has been included in this thread it would be great to have another good news story.
I have copied and pasted part of a thread here that should be considered by others with similar issue it appears to have helped this subscriber...
"I suffered the same thing for a week or two, steering would suddenly feel heavier than normal, and yes parking was like driving a 1930's truck. Shortly after that I had a complete failure on a roundabout and shook up the other drivers as well as myself. Car was taken to Mini UK, they told me £650 to repair...........and I politely told them they were picking up the bill due to the 'KNOWN' failure and good will package, put in place, because of the design fault issues that have been going around for ever!!!"

I have just voted on the Poll but not sure of the relevance of doing so now.. I will continue to read these threads and hopefully all will be revealed. Thanks for posting this important information buddy.

Taking my Mini convertible '05 into a local dealership tomorrow with a dying PSP. |
A) wish me luck with any hopes of a goodwill offer, and
B) let's hope I get there in one piece as I now dread driving my beautiful car!
Have found loads of helpful tips from this thread so thanks to contributors, here's hoping I also have some success with BMW/Mini UK.
Any other suggestions ppl can make if it comes back that I end up with the bill in full.. I'm assuming parts & labour from a Mini/BMW garage is going to be a pretty packet?! 😁

|DAC1984||I have just bought a 2004 Mini Cooper 112,878 miles, if my pump has gone would they fix this?|

|Gizmotech||Hi all, I dismantle my steering pump yesterday as it was leaking. I found that in between the impeller and the high pressure outlet part of the pump, there seems to be no gaskets. I have slight corrosion and pitting on the mating surfaces as I can seen is the case with many others from the pics they have posted. How did you guys who have stripped and rebuilt the pump prevent it from leaking or seeping? I cleaned my surfaces and it is still leaking and I am not surprised one bit. What poor design! Any help appreciated.|

Hi all, my Mini One recently suffered complete failure of power steering causing me to nearly have a very serious accident on a roundabout. I couldn't even turn the wheel. |
It sounds like many people have had the same issue. Has anyone successfully managed to get BMW to pay for a new pump? The car 10 years old but just 60,000 miles and pretty much like new. Does anyone know if the age of the car means Mini will be less likely to help me fix it? Just trying to figure out best thing to do next. Thanks very much.
