Offline | I wish some other California MINI owners were as nice. Let me explain. In this city, MINIs are still very rare - the single local dealership has only been open for 2 months. I've had my my daily driver MINI for 10 months and 12,000 miles. In all the time I've spotted about 4 other MINIs on the road. Four. Total. So yesterday, I'm pulling up to a stoplight and what's right in front of me? A shiny red Cooper S with a California license plate. I flash me lights, honk, and wave. My wife waves. I honk again. We wave again. The other MINI driver, still stuck at the light in front of me, can't be bothered to even wave back. I can see him look in the mirror to see what's behind him, but doesn't even acknowledge us or the MINI. He simple ignores us. I hope his car has the cold start problem. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Today While driving lost somwhere in Santa Clara (I think )Stubby had a gorgeous EB MINI honking wildly at him.Ofcourse this was the one time my boyfriend was driving and I had to explain to him why he was being honked at .I was sooooo frustrated I wanted to grab Stubs wheel and honk and flash back like a mad woman but didnt want to scare the boyfriend who was already lost and confused. It was great to see another enthusiastic MINI though. It made the being lost allot more fun. ![]() |

Offline | I go to Fremont on 237 M-F. I saw a yellow S last week going my way and we waved, it was cool because my car is yellow too. I get onto 237 at Maude at around 7:30 am. I'm usually driving home at around 5:30 on 237. retroom 2003 MC,LY/W, sport package, wht wheels, cruise, chrome, Kaleido cloth/black, OB computer |

Offline | Yeah, sometimes the MINI's that I see on the road are real friendly and they love waving to me and I gladly wave back and flash my lights. Recently though, I have noticed more and more people ignoring my waves and flashes! What's up with that?! I'm always on the lookout for other MINI's to say 'hello' to so I wish they'd return the coutesy of waving back! Oh well, enough venting... I guess everybody can't be as cool as all of you on this website! DS/DS MCS, Sport Package, Nav Sys, Rogue Engineering Stripes http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/dldds/mysig2.jpg |

Offline | fishie, I have yet to see a white MINI going my way. I remember seeing a white one going the opposite way when I was on my way home from work but the driver didn't see me. How far on 237 do you travel? I go all the way to 880 and take it towards Fremont. A couple of times I wasn't paying attention to the traffic behind me and suddenly a MINI shoots by. I flash my lights and wave after it passes but get no reaction. I guess the other MINI was ignoring me because he thought I was ignoring him. So don't be to hard on other drivers. But that California driver in Texas....there is no excuse for him. retroom 2003 MC,LY/W, sport package, wht wheels, cruise, chrome, Kaleido cloth/black, OB computer |

Offline | I'll keep an eye out for you. It's more likely that we will run into each other on the way home from work instead of in the morning. retroom 2003 MC,LY/W, sport package, wht wheels, cruise, chrome, Kaleido cloth/black, OB computer |

Offline | I see only a MINI here and a MINI there on the road, but from my office overlooking 87, I see about 7 to 10 per day. So they are out there, your odds are just lower because you are in the flow of traffic. Keep in mind not everybody is into MINIs for the comradely, they see it as a point a to b car that is fun to drive. They may never join clubs or go on drives (or even wave back) because they don't care about whet happens in-between A and B. Chris |

Offline | Hey guys, I thought I would chime in here. My girlfriend and I wave at every MINI or MCS we encounter. Cool. I had the same with my FJ40 LandCruiser and I didn't realize how I missed that ![]() I post though for a different reason. If the MINI in question has Xenon lights, flashing them on/off is NOT recommended. I was even told this by my dealer as it has been shown to shorten the life of the bulb, as he said. So, if you see a IB MCS with commertative 911 plates in the South Bay who is not flashing back - you know why ![]() '03 (9.6.02) MCS IB/W Lapis Blue Leather Mission = 10:1 (Weight:HP) |

Offline | Very true, xenons should not be switched on and off quickly to avoid damaging them. But..... the MINI's xenons are low beam only, and if you are 'flashing headlights' the right way, you are simply pulling back on the turn signal stalk to temporarily illuminate the non-xexon high beams (this happens day or night whether the headlights are on or not). So, no worries. Flash away. ![]() + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | The Bay Area has to have one of the highest MINI concentrations. They're still relatively rare up in here in Sac, but last weekend we drove down to Half Moon Bay via SF and saw around 8 before the day was done. |

Offline | Bruce, thanks - I didn't know that. First car with such lights I will flash away now! But, if someone does not flash back, well, they could be simply ignorant as opposed to rude :P'03 (9.6.02) MCS IB/W Lapis Blue Leather Mission = 10:1 (Weight:HP) |

| MINI2 Master / Moderator | I totally agree with you, I know other MINIs are not into MINI at all, they just buy the MINI b/c they think it's cute, they don't even understand the MINI spirit. But it won't stop me to wave to other MINIs or ask others to join the drive, may be they will change one day ![]() Last edited by dinlo : May 14th, 2003 at 12:06 PM. |

Offline | I agree Dinlo, but could you hold your steering wheel tight since you only been driving a stick shift for a month?! Anyway I am new to the forum and I had been one of the meeting on April 12 with Dinlo, hope to check with you guys next time when I get mine. After a year on the wait (deposit down on June 19, 2002) after a few days my last car burnt in a parking area in the neightborhood because of a insane neightbor tried to light up his own car I've been told that my MCS is on the vessal and on the way and will arrive at Port Hueneme on May 17th, I will miss out another great Mini meet and hopefully i can join up on the next one.See you guys soon. ![]() |
