Blue Cooper Buying out of state & other?

New to the Forum here... recently placed a deposit for an 03 MCS IB/W out of state ... was told I 'm possibly getting a July 03 build date.

Looking to find out if there are folks in the NorCal area that have bought an MCS out of state to bypass local markup/long waits. If so is there any advice on where & why you bought where you did out of state and any issues in bringing it back to Calif? Hoow have the local dealershiips treated you when you needed service...? Any and all advice welcome... Also, anyone have the auto rain sensing wipers and used them in fog... It is something I'm considering as I drive thru a lot of fog and thinking it might be worthwhile...?

Cheers-

I bought my car from Westchest MINI in NY. The only stupid thing you will have to deal with is having to get your BRAND NEW car its first California useless smog check. Yes I know the car is 50 state legal. Yes it is true that if you had the exact car delivered to a dealer in CA you wouldnt have to do this. Yes this is the price we pay for the weather we all love so much, don't you just love Cali?

You can email me any questions you have @ pstewart30@sbcglobal.net

okeeton,
I am also looking in to buying a S out of state. Check out the dealership forum. Several people in So. Cal. have posted
info about buying out of state.

The DMV website has info on smog, taxes etc.

Not sure if we are going to buy from NY, Memphis or perhaps
Salt Lake City.

Life is short! Why drive a boring car?!

Indi blue/white Cooper;Sport & Premium packages.

I've heard a lot of good things about Salt Lake on the anti-Niello thread.

dinlo-

Won't be able to make Hayward as I'm outta town this weekend, though thanks for the invite... maybe next time.

Others thanks for the update on the other items re: smog & Tax.

Any thoughts/feedback on either the dealership handling of Cars they didn't sell &/or the rain sensing wiper in heavy fog.

Fog bound on the coast.

The dealers are alright with fixing things on my car so far. Have had some issues but currently working them out. One word of advice, don't try and get everything fixed at once just to be nice and not bother the dealers. Every time something comes up with your car, just take it in and make them fix it right away, at least that is what I have found works best.

I would definately recommend at least giving NY a call, shipping wasn't to expensive on my car, would rather have driven it back but to many things were going on when it finally came into the dealer. Lori(aka MINI Queen) is very good at taking care of you and handled my transaction with out any hickups really.

I recently bought a used MCS (about 2500 miles) on E-bay. Even after shipping here from Maine, still saved quite a bit and the car is perfect. I have another friend here in N.Cal who bought a new MCS from a dealer in St. Louis at MSRP. Bought a one way ticket and drove it back. Maybe the dealers here will catch on but they obviously don't have to yet.

"Mini of the Hamptons" in New York will order you an "S" at MSRP; will arrive in under 8 weeks. I have heard good things about them. You can find them at MINIUSA.COM. Shipping will be between $700-1,000 depending if truck or rail car. I currently have a deposit with Mini of Scottsdale AZ for MSRP + $250 "doc fee" + $250 to ship to so cal. Waiting for August/Sept build date. I am getting a little impatient and thinking about using Hampton Mini!

I got my Cooper at MINI of Saint Louis aka
Clayton Autohaus. No complaints on the sales side.

Have not brought it back to CA yet.

I also heard good things about MINI in
Albany, NY (I think their NYMINIQueen
posted here or in the TireRack forumns).

MINI Queen is top notch, if do go out of state I recommend going through her. If I remember right I paid under $600 to ship my car on an uncovered truck and it took about a week. Definately recommend going through her, she made it very easy no real hassles.

If you were planning on leasing the car, does 'buying' out of state affect that?

That I don't know, some state are elligable for different leases. You should contact one of the dealers that has done a lot of out state deals to get good info on that.
