| 03 MCS Pure Silver / Blk | At least 2, but likely 4 cars will be heading there from Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts. San Francisco north bayers can sign up for membership here: http://redwoodempiremini.com, and new and existing members should let us know if you are going at http://minicooper.meetup.com/2/. 3 cars are scheduled to leave Wednesday afternoon, one on Tuesday. |

| 03 MCS Pure Silver / Blk | Hi Dennis, we personally will be taking both cars with one daughter in each one (MINIs really are only built for 2 people hehehe). We will pick them up after school and be out of Santa Rosa by 3:30pm +-. We will be heading thru the east bay around 5-5:30pm (I think) and head for Manteca and to 99 (I hate 5). We thought we may spend the night somewhere between Merced and Fresno, but we are open at this point.... I don't want to drive all night. Joanie may join us Wednesday on the road or may not leave until Thursday morning. I hope to be in Las Vegas before noon on Thursday. Where are you staying? |

Offline | Athena in Sacramento here. I'm also going to Vega$ for AMVIV. I'm interested in driving a more scenic route than Sac to Vegas via Bakersfield. A friend encouraged me to consider heading to Lake Tahoe or through Hope Valley on Hwy 88 down to Hwy 395. I've never taken those routes myself so I'm open to route suggestions, or better yet, an offer to follow any others who already have the same idea. I'm quite flexible on departure date and time. Thanks! ~Athena |

Offline | Thanks, dinlo. I appreciate that. I checked out that thread. I'll keep that in mind as an option. I'm still looking, however, for a more scenic route than it sounds like you guys will be taking. I have logged way way WAY too many hours on Hwy 99 and I'm much more inclined to seek out the scenic routes. My motoring getaway will be about the journey as much as the destination! ~Athena |

Offline | OK! So far I'm thinking of heading east on Hwy 50 (from Sacramento) to Pollock Pines. Dip down onto Hwy 88 and head towards Minden and Gardnerville to catch Hwy 395. Then head south past Bishop to hop on Hwy 190 and cut through Death Valley. If anyone else has got a similar idea or a route suggestion or wants to Run along, please let me know! ~Athena |

Offline | Mapquest shows my route at 13 hours. Comparing that to mapquest's recommendation of going south to Bakersfield for a 9 hour journey, I don't imagine too many people will be set on the "scenic" route. But I'm also considering this an opportunity to drive along the eastern Sierras, which I have never seen before. I'm thinking of doing part of it Wednesday evening and getting a hotel in, say, Topaz, NV on the 395. |

Offline | Driving 395 from Tahoe down - it's a gorgeous drive. Stop at the Mono Lake Visitor's Center if you can - very interesting. Below Bishop in the Owens Valley you can't help but looking at the Sierra Nevadas off to the West instead of the road. They rise up really suddenly from the valley floor, and in the late afternoon you see the snow swirling off the mountains, lit up by the sun setting to the west. I drive up to Mammoth from San Diego to ski, and the Sunday afternoon drive south is part of the trip I really enjoy. However! US 395 between LA/San Diego and Mammoth Ski Area is heavily traveled on Fridays and Sundays. And the cops are everywhere. Be especially carefull about obeying the speed limits in the towns and cities - they love the revenue... Still, a great drive and highly recommended! |
