Talking Good driving roads

I've had my car for two months now and really haven't been on any proper twisty roads on which to really drive this car. Perhaps this thread could be used to list all the good roads in the northern California area that we could recommend to others. So for anyone who knows of good roads list where it is and what the road is.

I live in San Jose, and know of pretty much nothing in the area that is a fun drive. The only road I can think of which actually is a pretty good road is Hicks, near Quicksilver park area.

There are some interesting drives in the Delta between the Bay Area and Sacramento. Scenic backroads, cool old bridges and the occasional ferry.

Hi afromanbob

You might want to join us at the monthly MINI run on Feb 12 then. Mines Road in Livermore is a GREAT road to drive, I'm sure you will love it.

More info: http://www.norcalminis.com/calendar/...sp?event_id=79

Hope to see you there.

If you are available Saturday February 5th and you don't mind a little freeway driving to get here, Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts will be having its monthly run on some of the best roads north of the bay. You can download our route for this and past runs (all full of "twisties") at http://redwoodempiremini.com/calendar.htm.

We will be having another exciting run a little further north on March 20th. Have you ever heard of the Hopland Grade?

We will have around 12-15 cars participating from all over the Bay area and Sacramento next weekend. You can see a partial list of who is going at http://minicooper.meetup.com/2/events/

Good driving roads:
East - McKee or Quimby to Mt. Hamilton Rd. (if you go over the hill it will take you to Mines Rd. - see dinlo's email)
North - 280 north to Moody Rd - west to Skyline Blvd. - south to Hwy 9
West - Hwy 9 out of Saratoga - west to Santa Cruz
South - Mckean Rd. to Watsonville Rd. - west to 152

I'm sure there are more but these seem to be very popular.

I grew up in San Jose and was going to mention Mt. Hamilton, but someone beat me to it. Plus it's been so long since I drove the roads around there (ummm, about 15 years) that I'm thinking that maybe some roads are changed. I would think there would be a lot of great twisties up in the Santa Cruz mountains, just get a good map and go exploring. Hwy 1 north of the city and on up past Fort Bragg would be fun (I used to live in Gualala - have fantasies of driving my MINI on those roads).

I also envy those folks that don't have to deal with the snow road crud during the winter - though it got up to a balmy 34 degrees today so I gave my car a quick sponge bath.

Lucas Valley Road in Marin is a fun & scenic drive.
Take 101 north. the Lucas Valley Rd. exit is on the right just before you reach Navato.

You will end up in a small town called Nicasio. From there you can drive on out to
the west and hook up to Highway 1 or go east to Petaluma.

Life is short! Why drive a boring car?!

Indi blue/white Cooper;Sport & Premium packages.
