August 5-7 REME Camping Trip and REME Run & Wine Tasting
I just thought I would update everyone on activities planned. For those of you who will be joining us on Friday (you must RSVP ASAP to join us camping), plan on reaching Duncan’s Mills Camping Club by early in the afternoon (anytime after 12 noon) to setup up your campsite. If there is interest, we will leave Duncan’s Mills at 3pm and drive to Armstrong Grove and take a 1 hour hike through the redwoods.
By 5 pm we will share drinks and hors-devours at the campground and by 8pm we will sit around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, star gazing, river walking, and maybe a game or two of pool. Bring your swim suits if you plan on spending time in the hot tub, river, or canoeing.
Saturday morning at 9am meet for breakfast provided by the Camping Club. After breakfast at
10am we will meet non-camping REME members and interested others at Gold Coast Coffee & Bakery right outside of the gates to Duncan’s Mills Camping Club. By 10:30am we will depart, drive through Jenner, north on highway 1 to Fort Ross. This is a state park and does charge $5-$6 for parking. After touring the old Russian colony, we will have a picnic lunch (remember to pack a lunch). After lunch we will return to the Camping Club via Old Fort Ross Road through Cazadero. The road is narrow and twisty, but a little rough. I don't anticipate seeing any bikes on this road, but we will need to take it a little slow due to the road's surface (not many pot holes, just a little rough).
We will return to Duncan’s Mills Camping Club (both those camping and those joining us for the day) and rest, socialize or visit the Village of Duncan’s Mills. At 3pm we will leave for Korbel Winery, for wine tasting and possible tour. At 5pm, campers will return to the Camping Club and all other participants will be on their own to explore the river area and its eclectic night life, or to return home.
Campers are on their own for dinner Saturday night, but we will still be sharing a campfire, marshmallows, drinks, and the stars.
The Village of Duncan’s Mills offers boutique shops, wine tasting, two restaurants with night life and live music. Jenner is about 5 miles away and offers at least two more restaurants and salt water taffy. Guerneville is 9 miles away, has gas stations and a Safeway if you want to make food purchases when enroot to the camping club.
Sunday, breakfast and activities are on your own. Check out time is 12 noon, although you can park in the common area and still enjoy the grounds as long as your site is vacated. On the way home, there are many wineries in the Guerneville, Forestville, Sebastopol, and Healdsburg areas. If you want some recommendations, email me or talk to me over the weekend.
Please RSVP on our calendar at:
