Aha, the modding has already begun. You know, it's just like crack, you start with a small hit like an air filter, you get a taste and want more, and then its all downhill from there...

Is the original air intake also a hot air one, or does that one hook up to an outside plenum like the Mk 1 Cooper S?

No, the stock box is sealed off and fed from the outside - I'd try to figure out a way to minimise the hot air that filter is sucking in, Dorkboy. It's robbing horsepower. But the car looks great. Happy Motoring!

yeah, I have a few idea's about the "engine hot air" thing. So I might try to play with a few ideas this weekend. Cold air is good air!!

So, I made a "CAI" box this past weekend. Here is the main link to all my photos. I took some temperature readings, but I am not all done yet, too see what the difference is.

There you go. Oh yeah, I went to Montana yesterday, just south of St. Mary's is 14 kms of SOLID twisty roads!!! I took tons of photos and a 11 minute movie (360 MB). It is SOOOOOOO worth it for the 6ish hour drive for the 20 minute return drive!!! If anybody knows where I can post my HUGE movie online, PLEASE let me know, then everybody can watch it, and rate how I drive!! hehe.

Cheers,

Scott.

p.s. My chrome air scoop came in today, so there will be some photos very soon of it on.

Nice. Do you work in a fabrication shop?

Is that the bit going downhill with a couple of switchbacks? T and I took that road in our old Mustang GT back in 2000 on the way through Glacier. Lots of fun.

I was actually thinking about that CAI yesterday - is there a way/room to run a duct from the bonnet scoop to the air filter? Maybe fit some mesh in the front of the scoop to keep leaves out etc. and you'll have lots of cold air to the filter.
Nice job, by the way, Scott (or is that 'Captain Foglight'? ) on the box.

Vince, no I don't work in a Fab shop, honestly, I am just really handy! I did it sunday evening, in the rain, in just over an hour, but not installed.

That part in Montana is not through Glacier Park, but south of it.

Craig, I was thinking after I left tonight, that I am going to cover the top of it with Lexan (bullet proof plastic). With that only hot engine air will get on the right side of the CAI, and that's not much at all.

I almost got busted tonight racing a Ford GT!!! hehe, I clearly lost, but neither of us got busted. Phew!

There are more in my gallery.
I am going to make the air scoop more functional this weekend I think.

Scott.

Nice. The aftermarket sure hasn't wasted much time making new accessories!

Are you going to try and route some air from the scoop into the air intake?
