Mini Photography

I took some pictures tonight as id just cleaned me motor, and out of about a dozen photos the majority has come out crap

Some of these pictures look slightly 'moved' like my hands were moving as i took them but they were as still as humanly possible!!
Also the crispness, looking at some peoples pictures on here, mine do not even compare.
Another thing ive noticed are 'light spots', on the last one you can see a blueish type circle at the bottom of the headlight, how do you not get these
Or have we just got a dodgy/useless camera... although most pictures during the day come out fine.
Here are a few crappy ones to show you what i mean.

Any tips would be useful

To take pics in this level of light you would need a tripod to keep the camera still enough

Digital cameras on the auto setting will adjust the shutter time to suit the light level and would put it on 1/50 sec or slower for something like this

Even trying your best to hand hold the camera in this light will give shake

Hi

I find I get the same results on my phone camera which is not really up to the job, even with a tripod it doesn't look as if the camera is either fast enough or the light from your flash is just not up to what is required, it may be better to go with the day shots! they can be top quality

A lot of the pick up and shoot cameras are just not good enough for large open areas at night, you would need to turn the flash off first then try it and maybe play with the shutter settings if you can.

Night photos/low-light photos you'll definitely need a tripod. As Gristie says, anything slower than about 1/50 - 1/40 and the most tiny fraction of movement on your part will cause image blur.

If you don't have a tripod (or don't want to buy one) you could try sitting the camera on the ground/on a wall etc.. and if the camera has a self-timer feature, use that so as to not trigger any motion when depressing/releasing the shutter button.

We've got a little mini tripod, it wasn't expensive, and it is really useful for taking night time photos.

Even a small bean bag and a wall can work.

Surprise knowbody has asked how are you holding the camera? Hold your elbows tight to your sides and put your feet like a boxer. Check camera settings, any night modes? and as all have siad turn the flash off.

2 secs hand held
