Just a little Photoshop trick ...

... you might like to try: Take one shot with the bonnet open & one shot with the bonnet closed. The camera really needs to be on a tripod so that everything lines up properly. Stack the two images onto two photoshop layers and use a layer mask to paint in the motor. I tweaked the colour and levels of the engine too.

Ah, a very old photoshop trick that. I saw it recently too on a Bonnet scoop thread where the guy tries to display how the scoop worked.

I wonder how it would work for the human body - urgh !!!

Cheers,
K.

That looks cool, when the whether improves and I can take some decent photos I'm gonna try some photoshop tricks like this. I downloaded GIMP as well the other day. I need to give that a try to see if I can use it to make some similar effects.

with this technique you can do what you did but make the lines on the original bonnett solid and add an effect to it to make it look like a section has been taken out.

Or you can make it look like your bonnett actually splits open.

There's also GimpShop - the Gimp but with customised menus more familiar for Photoshop users... I'm still no good with it though!
